Grade Pre-season Game #3

I give this one a D....worst game of the pre-season so far. Pass coverage has got to tighten up....pass rush...well, we are still wondering what that looks like....

1 of 10 on 3rd downs I do believe....not going to cut it

D-

1. O-Line was horrible. Couldn't give anybody any kind of protection.

2. Playcalling was just flat out awful. I don't give a shit if it's pre-season or not, but you don't call a ****ing run it up behind the center's ass on a 3rd and 2. Apparently, our coordinator or Todd Haley is scared shitless to take a pass on a first ****ing down.

3. Penderdick needs to quit dicking his corners 10 ****ing yards off of the LOS. That's Greg Robinson Spinner Defense shit right there.

4. Tank Tyler and Ron Edwards needs their asses chewed out or released, and the Chiefs needs to find a NT, and fast. The interior line is getting gashed pretty good.

Man I couldn't agree more.
I always had the impression that 3-4 defenses had to have a kick ass NT and man corners....... WTF were they doing playing soft 10 yard cushion-react crap out on the corners?

I know it's preseason but come the F### on.

There were positives. The running game looked pretty good. The defense was fairly good outside Pollard in the first half. Bowe continues to be a stud.

It's just preseason. Those are good signs. When Tyler Thigpen and Bernard Pollard are starting, a lot of shit is going to go wrong. It happens.

Man I haven't seen the game yet. After reading these posts I am not sure I want to watch it.

I had some high hopes in this game.

Damn...

Were there any positives? Does anyone know how long Cassel is suppose to be out?

Edit* Just saw GoChiefs post above for the positives!

Well, considering it was a game where the starting quarterback, best safety, best linebacker and best corner were all out minutes into it, I thought it could have been much worse.

Grading the only part of the game that really mattered, that being the first half, then I'd call it a C. There were some positives: Charles and LJ combined for nearly 100 yards rushing at around 6.5 yards a pop in the first half; Bowe looks primed to have a great year (3 catches for 38 yards); the run defense held Seattle under 4 yards/carry, pressured and sacked Hasselbeck and had a score.

On the flip side, of course, Cassel went down early, and the defense gave up 150 yards passing, but that doesn't exactly surprise me when their best coverage linebacker, best coverage safety and best cornerback are all on the sideline. And despite all that, they did only give up 7 points.

The game got ugly in the second half, but I couldn't care less about that. The first team was competitive, with some of their best players on the sideline. So what if the scrubs lost the JV half of the game.

And I think the Chiefs offense probably scores in the first half if Croyle or even Gutierrez's in the game instead of weeble-wobble. He was just awful. Which isn't exactly unexpected to those of us who don't wear Thigpen underoos.

Best LB? Are you considering DJ our best?

In all seriousness, I think it might end up being Mays, and that's not really me being overly optimistic about this young kid.

Yeah, I think DJ's the best. Which isn't any kind of knock against Mays. Mays is the run stuffer and has done well in that role, but DJ has a wider, albeit less sexy, role, and I think he would've helped with a lot of the open looks in the middle of the field.

And actually Mays didn't do very much tonight. Demorrio Williams had a lot of tackles, but most of them were of the Donnie Edwards 'drag the ball carrier down after a 5-yard gain' variety. I think they missed DJ.

I think Mays is the Chiefs best linebacker as well.

DJ doesn't suck but he's almost never a factor.

Average at best, invisible at worst.
