Whiskey with a Pickle Back?
So I've been reading about this a lot lately. Shot of whiskey neat (sipping) with a back of good pickle juice (not Vlasic bullshit... something gourmet). Anyone tried it? I have a fellow whiskey drinker coming over on Friday, and we're going to give it a shot. I'll let you all know how it is.

Why would you ruin even shitty whiskey with pickle juice?

Lately, the only think that goes in my whiskey is these. **** ice.

It's a pickle back. Not in the whiskey. I think you're supposed to shoot the whiskey then shoot the pickle juice. I don't really shoot anything, so I imagine I'm going to try it by sipping whiskey, then sipping the pickle juice. The rye/sour combination sounds interesting to me.

I don't really consider that a chaser. A sip of one. Savor it. Sip the other. Savor how the tastes combine. If they're complementary flavors, then it creates something new. If they're not... then yeah. One cancels out the other. If it just cancels the whiskey, then I'm not interested. If it combines for something new, then I'm down with it. We'll see how it goes.

Well, I think that might be how a lot of people drink it. Like I said, though, I don't shoot anything. When I drink liquor, I want a drink that I can savor and enjoy... not something that I shoot to get it down as quickly as possible.

Disappointing to say the least. Completely destroyed the whiskey and erased all evidence of it from the mouth, even with a good slug of whiskey and just a sip of pickle juice.

The closest we came to the combination we hoped for was to take a sip of pickle juice first, then drink the whiskey. This actually allowed for both flavors to combine on the palate. Even that wasn't really that interesting, and we ended up just killing the whole bottle of Bulleit neat. Stayed up until 2:30am, and I'm exhausted now.

We do it sometimes at the river or if we party at Cape Fair, we use tequila and call em hillbilly margaritas. They are pretty good but you gotta be in the mood for it.
