Great. ****ing. Pick.

This kid is going to be a superstar. His play and versatility is well documented, so I'm going to focus on the off the field stuff I noticed that makes me like this pick even more.

Anyone notice that almost every prospect in the green room had a watch the size of a ****ing dinner plate, and a ton of bling?

Not EB. Dud looked like he was wearing a $50 Seiko.

The story of helping the equipment guys also shows how humble this kid is. There's no doubt in my mind this kid is going to work his ass off to be the best FS in the league. This secondary is going to be sick when we get some pass rushing help.

Moving on....

Clausen. Part of me is pissed because they didn't move back up into the late 1st to grab him - but part of me thinks they've made the right move by keeping their picks because they think he'll still be there at 36. Cleveland and Carolina are both rumored to prefer Colt McCoy. Minnesota isn't going to take him, and I think they'll move back again if they can. They wanted Patrick Robinson and were sniped by the Saints.

Kindle. Microfracture surgery? Pass.

Otherwise, there are some great prospects that should be available here. I just hope they continue to take playmakers and leave the fat guys to the later rounds. Benn would be a nice R2 pick, as would Daryl Washington, Golden Tate, etc.

Rest of the AFC West.

Oakland taking McClain at 8 changed the entire draft. It's a big reach, IMO - and it makes no sense to take this kid and kick Kirk Morrison to the curb, but it's Oakland - they never do anything that makes sense.

WTF is AJ Smith thinking? Ryan Matthews is a great pick, but why mortgage your draft to move up 16 spots to get him? You can't convince me that anyone before Houston was going to take him. Huge waste of resources.

Denver. Oh, Denver. You made my night. At first you scared me, because you were stockpiling picks. Then you took Thomas, which was an excellent move. Then when you traded up, I figured it was for Dan Williams, which would have been another solid move.

Then I see the cutaway to Tim Tebow on the phone, and laugh my balls off.

Thanks for the laughs, Josh. I'm looking forward to more tonight.

Tonight really is huge for this franchise. Pioli gets an A thus far, but these next three picks are going to be the make-or-break for the future of this franchise, IMO. Hit on them, and things are looking great. Miss? I don't even want to think about it.

We were talking about the Patriots a good part of the night.

We all thought they were just owning the draft, because they kept trading down, and we all figured they'd still get their man - Hughes.

Shocked they passed on him, but I understand the McCourty pick.

I agree that the Vikings will not take Clausen. My buddy is huge Viking fan and he thinks they're need safety help more than anything. Plus, I also agree with Steve Marriucci's take. He thinks the Vikings are set up to be in a win now mode where they could use a player or two to make them real strong contenders. Makes sense to me because I see Favre coming back for at least a year or two, that, and they seem to still believe in Tavarris Jackson.

I had this thought today that if the Chiefs passed on Clausen, the only other teams that worry me are Cleveland and Buffalo. But now that you mentioned Colt McCoy, I never thought of him. I think he could go to Cleveland, but, IF the Chiefs let Clausen pass, I think Buffalo could take him. jmo...The only reason I say that, is, they tried really hard to move up and trade for Tebow. They were the reason Denver offered so much to Baltimore. Could Buffalo still be thinking QB? Even despite losing out on Tebow?

Replace Tate with Benn and I am with you. Although I doubt Benn will last until 2b and there is a better chance Tate will be available at that point. A WR combo of Benn and Bowe could be lethal, they are both big and fast, and Benn offers the ability to catch anything thrown in his zipcode and he blocks like an animal.

He has always been an overblown blow hard, and Jim (Logical, RIP) and I were saying from the start when he was rehired that he woudn't be able to fix that defense.

I actually think Clausen would make a great situation for the Chiefs.

#1 it sends a message to Cassel. This is the year he either puts up or shuts up. By drafting a QB his back is against the wall, it creates more competition in camp and it will truly demonstate how he performs under pressure.

#2 Drafting Clausen makes the Charlie Weis hiring even more appealing. What better guy to have in coaching a young quarterback who knows his ins and outs better than anyone else. In other words, Chiefs have the right coach to develop Clausen.

#3. I look at it this way, if the Chiefs draft Clausen, and Cassel steps it up by having a good year, its a bonus! Makes things better for next year. It sets the Chiefs up in a great situation by knowing you have a quarterback in Cassel and a potential quarterback in Clausen. Cassel could be a possible trade bait for a team that is looking for a quarterback? Hey you never know? And if the worst case scenario happens, where Cassel sucks, at least you have another option to look forward to with better upside and talent.

*There are a lot of good scenarios that could come out of this

I disagree with the Best selection.

He's a good player, just like Pettigrew was, but at some point, you have to get a left tackle to protect Matt Stafford.

Charles Brown, Saffold, or Bruce Campbell would have all been superior selections, and they weren't reaches.

I think New England really cocked up their draft. Trading down is, for the most part, overrated unless you are getting 1sts or 2nds at some point, or a third that year. The Patriots have far fewer holes than draft picks and a lack of impact players on their defense, and when it came time for their selection, I think they took the 5th or 6th best CB in the draft.

I think that Belichick has become so used to trading down that he's oblivious to the value that is staring him right in the face.

For some reason, I just have a feeling that they won't take Clausen.

Yeah I didn't agree with the Best pick either. Although I do like him as a player, but I think they should of went OT.

Fair point on Best. I can respect that opinion.

I just like the fact they are trying to improve their team by taking playmakers, and not drafting based solely on need.

Great post. I was texting Pest last night and said some of the same things. He brought up some good later round prospects that was a good point. But I thought them moving up was for a tackle. They have to get that done.

Do you think Lee could fall to early 3rd? Some people think he can. I think if he does, he'd be great value in the 3rd round.

The nice thing about left tackle:

It wasn't a reach, and it obviates the playmakers of Green Bay, Minnesota, and Chicago, while letting your franchise remain....well, living.

Kind of hard to argue that a coach isn't pretty good when his defense is tops in the league twice in a 3 year span. That being said, I don't think he was a genius by any means.
