What's going on at Missouri?

The second DWI in a month?

This time the #2 linebacker on the team

http://www.810whb.com/article/4445#

Missouri linebacker arrested for DWI

Missouri linebacker Will Ebner was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The junior middle linebacker was stopped by officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, taken into custody at 2:15 a.m. and released on $500 bond.

Ebner, 20, has been recovering from a hamstring injury through most of preseason camp. He was Missouri’s third-leading tackler last season with 78 stops and began the preseason as the Tigers’ No. 2 middle linebacker, behind co-captain Luke Lambert.

The DWI arrest is the second to strike Missouri's football program this month. On Aug. 2, offensive line coach Bruce Walker was arrested outside the team facility on suspicion of operating his vehicle while intoxicated. Walker is still waiting to be officially charged by the city prosecutor. He's due in court for arraignment on Sept. 13, a city official said last week.

Stay tuned for more on Ebner’s status.

1) Ebner has not practiced much this fall, but Luke Lambert was the favorite to start at MLB, anyway - because he's more assignment-sound and much better in coverage.

2) It's a DUI offense. First time the kid has been in any trouble. He's hardly Hunter Teafatiller. It's not good, but this is far from the worst thing done by one of the local college athletes.

3) I'd much rather deal with this type of thing than have five starters lost for the season before it ever begins. Wow, Nebraska fans, bad luck up there.

While I'm taking to billay and company... has to be worrisome that 40 percent of your starting OL is now out for the season, considering you're a run-first team. Even if Martinez wins the starting job, you're still run-first (probably even more so). Right?

Puts even more pressure on a defense that has to replace an awful lot. How will the corners look when opposing QBs have time to throw something other than a slant, out or dig? How is that DL going to look without someone to draw constant double teams (though I did see one Nebraska writer claim Suh and Crick were each double-teamed on every single play...)

Should be a fun year. I understand Nebraska confidence (the game is in Lincoln, after all), but I don't understand the absolute arrogance and scoffing at even the thought that MAYBE Missouri MIGHT give them a game up there.

Typical internet fandom, I guess...

You mean 1/5 of the o-line Duncan? Smith wasn't going to be the starter at left tackle and the o-line last year was garbage. Arrogance? You gave up 27 points in 1 quarter to a shitty 1 armed QB and 2 injured Rb's.

This. It's pretty ridiculous. A team that hasn't found a starting QB and has no real playmakers at WR somehow feels like it's a clear walk to the Big 12 championship. That defense is one of the best in the country still I have no doubt in that but defense really doesn't win championships anymore IMO. It would if you can place a top 25 offense with it but to be so unbalanced just isn't good. If teams can find a way to score early on Nebraska they are in a lot of trouble with their style of play. They really can't comeback from a 2-3 TD deficit with the offense they throw on the field. That's why I'm really hoping we can see Mizzou put up a couple early TD's in Lincoln this year because if they get out to a lead I don't see them relinquishing it against a run first team like the Nubs. I can't wait for the season to get here.

Considering most of their problems on offense last year were due to the oline starters playing hurt every week and the rest redshirting and the QB playing hurt after the VT game they scaled back the offense to the basics. This year with the exception of Mike Smith who is out for the year with a broken leg and who was slated for back up duty we're still in great shape depth wise. Helu is healthy. He played with a separated shoulder for most of the season, Burkhead is healthy. He broke his foot and missed 5 games. The whole offense was walking wounded last year. Still they had to play thru it and it showed. This season I think you'll be shocked at how good their going to be on offense.

Keith Williams is out for the season as well, not sure if you saw that. Smith was an important depth guy and insurance in case the JUCO LT didn't work out.

And, sorry, don't completely buy all of that about the offense. Whether Lee was hurt or not (and even if he was, they decided to keep playing him AND keep having him run the ball as much as he did/take as many hits as he did?). The offensive line was just average-good, returns most of the same guys (minus the best guy, Williams) and they're all upper-classmen (so their best growth likely is behind them). The fact that you had to move a TE (even a good one like McNeil) to WR doesn't bode well for that unit either.

And sorry, just don't buy that the defense will be as dominant/great without Suh. It still will be good, still be a top 15-20 unit, but you don't lose a player that outstanding and just collectively replace him.
