These poor dumb bastards
Vikings | Short leash for Christian Ponder
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 21:00:26 -0700 Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder remains the unquestioned starter entering his third NFL season. However, if he goes into a protracted slump like last season, the coaching staff could be inclined to take a look at QB Matt Cassel, who will make $3.7 million this season even if he doesn't take a snap. Cassel fits the system of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave better than QB Joe Webb, who is expected to serve as the third QB. If I used stats, I'd tell you that Smith is worse than Matt Cassel, and the stats would back me up. But I have said numerous times that Smith is better than Cassel. But better than bad does not equal good.

Smith is marginally better than Cassel, big ****ing deal. The Vikings gave up nothing for Cassel, we gave up almost a first for Smith. Do you understand his point now?

Though there's no way Cassel is going to be the savior of the Vikings or anything, I won't be at all surprised if he ends up having a perfectly mediocre career there. The environment here was clearly toxic well beyond him, so getting somewhere else with a coaching staff that isn't awful could return him to 2010 levels. I fully expect he'll be much better there than he was here.
Of course, that's not saying much. |
