A girl in Kentucky was sent home from school because her outfit exposed her collarbone.



A photo of the young woman, posted to Reddit, showed her wearing a tan undershirt with a white shirt on top, complete with a pair of jeans. School officials reportedly sent her home because her collarbone was showing, which went against dress code.

“Female students are not allowed to show their collar bone because it's distracting the male students,” the caption alongside the photo explained.

Many viewers on Reddit were quick to criticize the school’s action, while others detailed similar situations of extreme dress code rules.

“They tried to ban girls from wearing anything that could reveal their bra strap for the same reason in my high school, so the girls just stopped wearing bras,” one Redditor wrote.

“Then they tried to make bras mandatory. Turns out a teacher asking a 16 year old if she's wearing a bra or not could have some unfortunate legal ramifications.”

Reminds me of when my school's principal wouldn't allow the volleyball girls to wear spandex shorts even though it was clearly allowed under the governing rules of the sport in the name of "modesty" or whatever.

Strict social conservatives can't accept that the culture isn't like the one they matured in as teen in the 70s or 80s: vulgarity is profuse in the media, the adhering or protecting the "family unit" isn't a high priority and it's just accepted that minors are being sexually active. Too many administrators and teachers can't accept the fact that they can't stop kids from cussing, sexing and disregarding authority choose to overreach and overreact by imposing arbitrary and idiotic rules like the aforementioned collarbone ban.
