Let's talk about the Saints.

What?

It's midweek and we don't have a Saints thread?

I pretty much have no idea what to expect in this game. The Saints are a pretty terrible team everywhere. They have one good passrusher and the rest of their defense is utter garbage. Their offensive line can't open holes and Mark Ingram is JAG.

But, of course, they have the one thing we're vulnerable to: an elite, Hall of Fame quarterback.

Brees can light Arrowhead the **** up. We currently have no CBs on this team that can guard Brandin Cooks, a sharp route-running speedster that our corners match up horribly against.

Fortunately, they have no other receivers that are serious weapons, but it doesn't matter with Brees. He gets the ball out in a hurry, and roughly 100% of his passes are on target. Brees has seen every coverage, and every blitz.

We're probably rolling with another Hali/Ford/Zombo matchup on the edges and that's not going to be enough to get to him.

What do you guys know about the Saints?

That speed? That he showed in that gif? Yeah; 2 blown out knees and 5 years, that kind of speed is gone. That's world class track speed and I'm sorry but simple age would've taken that away, let alone the injuries.

He's still faster than most but he's not the burner he used to be. If he gets that corner today, I suspect that's about a 45-50 yard gain before the pursuit angle gets him knocked out of bounds.

The only team that the Saints have played this season that has any semblance of a defense was the Giants.

The Saints scored 13 points that game.

Indeed they do. I'd like to see them generate some pressure with only 4. There were a few nickel packages they used vs OAK that had Jones, Howard, Poe and Hali rushing, and did fairly well. In their base nickel, its usually Bailey playing a 3-tech, Poe on a 1, and hali/Ford edge. I think Jones is a big improvement there from a pass rush standpoint.

He decided he was going to run a 10 second 100m dash after he had already just ran 30 yards. He seriously looked like he started an Olympic sprint halfway through that damn run.

While we havent seen it proven out yet, you're most likely right... age and injury will rob the best of them of their 5th gear

The good news is that his 4th gear is probably still faster than 90% of the leagues backs, and that vision and balance was on display yet again last week... paired with Ware, thats still a vicious thunder and lightning combo

Between those two, West and our wunderkind practice squad'r Reaves... we have an embarrassment of riches at RB

Brees put up 52 in my money league last week.

Ill settle for 28 and a KC win.

Honestly, it makes me a little scared that they have such a great passing attack, and we are weak at everything other than CB1.

Mark my words:

Chris Jones is going to make his presence known against Brees.

I'm not going to be surprised when he gets 2 sacks, bats 2-3 passes and makes a couple stops behind the line in the run game.

First start.

In front of the home crowd.

Lots of opportunities to get to Brees.

Shit, I meant to say DELAYED A gap blitzes. Since you mentioned Brees like to climb the pocket, those could be killer, IMO. If the coverage on the back end is tight for 2-3 seconds we could send an ILB right into Brees' lap just as he steps up to make a throw.

Yeah, DJ's right about this one. That speed was otherworldly and it's definitely gone now. He really isn't all that fast anymore. He's certainly faster than most but his speed is just plus now- nothing more, IMO.

If you're needing a reminder just go back and watch highlights vids of his from 2009 and 2010. He made lightning look slow back then.

LOL Wow.

I mean, we'll give up a ton of yards because Sutton won't want to get beat deep, but that disparity in road/home performance is astoundingly horrid.

20 carries for Ware, 15 for Charles and a couple read-options for Smith. Not even bullshitting. Their defense is like tissue.
