The Chiefs should trade for Tyrann Mathieu

Third thread's a charm, right?

The facts are these:

1. The Chiefs desperately need an upgrade at safety.

2. They were very close to trading for Earl Thomas, which shows that they know they desperately need an upgrade at safety.

3. Tyrann Mathieu is not quite Earl Thomas, but he has a history of high level play and this year has as many interceptions as the entire Chiefs defense and a rating of 72.3 from PFF, which qualifies as "Good."

4. Eric Murray has a 58.1 rating, which feels extremely generous. (Ron Parker has a 58.5)

5. Mathieu is on a one year contract, which means it wouldn't take a very high pick to get him.

6. Mathieu is also 26, which means he could be extended and become a long term upgrade.

7. Veach expressed interest in Mathieu this past offseason:

8. Veach has already established a pattern of getting guys on the second or third try (see Watkins, Hitchens)

9. The Texans are going nowhere this season. If they lose a few more games, they can safely be considered sellers.

10. Perhaps most importantly, THE CHIEFS DESPERATELY NEED AN UPGRADE AT SAFETY

So, how many posts to make this happen???

We see that but do they? I'm not at all confident they know what they are doing with defensive drafts.

That said, there is zero reason to believe that Houston is looking to be a seller right now. I'm guessing if you ask the Texans front office they'd laugh at you. The reality is Veach needs to hit in the draft.
If they lose at least one of the next two and then lose to the Jags, they're dead in their division and have to compete with the Ravens/Bengals/Chargers/Titans for the wild card. They might not laugh at that point.

They need natural, gifted passrushing specialists that play that position and not depend on these 3-4 DE/OLB or try to convert these DEs into passrushers. They depend on that too much and its not translating into success.

And what also doesn’t help is this stupid defensive coach that consistently relies on the 3 man rush.

I don’t blame you for feeling that way. I can’t comment to say if they do see that, I just hope that they learn from what is actually setting them back on D.

He's 5'9 on his tiptoes and weighs 185. Small but he does play a ferocious style. Sometimes to his own detriment.

Since we jumped in front of the Texans for the GOAT QB I doubt they want to do anything to help us.
