We definitely have something special in Mahomes. Yes, he's talented. But he's also driven. He's the hardest working guy on the team. How many guys would be focused on next year just weeks removed from fulfilling a lifelong dream?

A national champion his senior year with Penn State a predominantly running team. Curt Warner Tony Mumford RBs and Jon Williams at FB. that team was Joe Paternos first national champion. I think that swayed jack and Jim more than anything since neither was really football men more business guys.

Patrick Mahomes made headlines last week when he muttered that he just learned how to read defenses this past season. Nearly a week after, Mahomes’ comments sparked a reaction from Andy Reid — the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“There’s reading defenses, and there’s doing it for a number of years,” Reid said via 610 Sports Radio regarding Mahomes’ interview. “So he can read defenses — it’s just once you’ve been in it a while like Tom (Brady), like the guys he mentioned, You’ve been in it a while; it just is second nature. There’s just not a lot you haven’t seen, so I mean he’s in his second year. He just finished his second year as a starter, and there are new things thrown at you.”

When Mahomes initially made the comments on HBO’s “The Shop”, everyone assumed he was saying that he couldn’t read defenses at all. On the contrary, Reid and Mahomes have clarified that he finally had a better understanding of defenses in 2019.

In just two seasons as a starter for the Chiefs, Mahomes has thrown for 76 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. This past season alone, Mahomes was extremely efficient, finishing with only five interceptions. As a result of Mahomes’ improvements, Kansas City was able to win the franchise’s first Super Bowl since 1969.

While he understands coverages and what defenses are trying to do, the scary part is that he’ll continue to improve in that area as the years pass. As Michael Jordan once said, the ceiling is the roof for Mahomes moving forward.

Believe it or not, Patrick Mahomes still has room to grow. He’s working to ensure he takes his game to another level in 2020.

Less than a week after his comments were revealed in reference to when he learned to read defenses, Mahomes is dropping even more jaws. The 2018-19 MVP and this year’s Super Bowl MVP is famous for dazzling plays that often come off-schedule, and he’s perfecting that craft.

Mahomes has spent a lot of time in his home state of Texas training in the offseason. Today’s video features him working on throwing from a variety of arm angles, often off-balance and fading away from his intended targets:

Preventative maintenance and joint/muscle strength building have been two critical points of emphasis in Mahomes’ training regimen as of late. He battled through several injuries last season but was able to return in time to fine-tune things and gear up for the playoffs. He then led the Kansas City Chiefs to their first Super Bowl victory in 50 seasons.

On the year, Mahomes threw for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns. In 14 starts, he threw just five interceptions and seemed a lot more comfortable under center once he got healthy. He’s set to enter year three as a full-time starter in Andy Reid’s famous offense.

If his latest workouts are any indication, we have yet to see the final form of Patrick Mahomes. That’s a scary sight for opposing defenses, considering they already have enough trouble slowing down the 24-year-old.

Mahomes is one of the NFL’s brightest young stars. The fact that he’s working so hard despite already having reached the pinnacle of success bodes well not only for his future, but the future of the league as a whole.
