Raiders had a helluva run from 1967 - 1983 but with different QB’s & HC’s.

How do you define a sports dynasty and what does this current Chiefs team need to do
A dynasty can be either short term or long term. A short term dynasty needs 3 Super Bowl appearances in five years (four is better) with at least two wins. A long term dynasty needs sustained success over about 10 years with at least three Super Bowl wins, a few other appearances, other minor playoff successes, and no instances of multiple terrible seasons mixed in, and is in general the team others are chasing basically every season.

The 70’s Cowboys were pretty good too. Super Bowl wins in 1971 & 1977 with the same QB & HC with several near misses.

Traditionally, it's 3 in 5 years. The Patriots did that twice.
The Chiefs likely missed that by losing the Super Bowl to Tampa and/or last year's debacle against the Bengals. Then again, it's hard to win every season. Lots of moving dominoes. If the Chiefs won in 2018, do they still win in 2019? Do they revamp the offensive line if they beat Tampa in the Super Bowl? Also, how would Tampa and LA rework their rosters if they didn't win the Super Bowl? What players would they add? When you're a contender every year, there will be an argument you could have won every season if one or two plays were different. Just doesn't work that way. |

You need 3 or 4 titles to be called a dynasty. Championship game appearances don’t count, and regular season wins don’t count. Chiefs were the winningest team of the 90s and we regard that era as one of postseason futility.

Win one this year and you're trending towards dynasty status.
Of the past 4 years, I think last years is the one that just pisses me off the most. The 18 one was just new and exciting. Would have been cool to win it, but you knew it was just the start. Then the win in 19, return in 20. The 20 one sucks sure, but the injuries to the OL just doomed it and it is what it is. Can't really control that. Last years was the dick kick IMO. They just gave it away. |

If we win it all this season, we are officially a dynasty for me. Only question will be if it gets viewed then as one short one like many others that have happened or can surpass those and even Patriots by turning 3 Super Bowls appearances (2 wins) in four years into 6 in 8 or 9 years with 4-5 wins or possibly even extending it longer.

Agreed. If we win it this year then last year is forgiven a bit, but otherwise the loss could go down as the worst of the Reid/Mahomes era by far. |
