Beginning of the End of the Reid era?

The decision on assistant coaching seems to have to wait until Reid's time here is done, which is probably at least a year away. However, there are some similarities between the assistant coaching decisions and what ultimately led to Reid's departure from Philadelphia.

I think the entire offensive coaching staff blows, and I don't see a solution to the problem, especially not halfway through the current season. Reid isn't going to clean house, which I believe is needed this off-season. While I am not a fan of EB, he did bring some balance and accountability to the team that seems to be lacking currently, and I believe it is desperately needed.

By firing Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid shows he knows he's next unless the Birds improve quickly. Castillo, whose defense couldn't come up with critical stops in the fourth quarter of come-from-ahead losses the last two weeks against Pittsburgh and Detroit, was a strange hire for the job from the get-go, never having coached defense in the NFL and having been the Birds' offensive line coach for more than a decade.

Reid had shown immense loyalty to Castillo, but must have realized quickly his friend was over his head, first bringing in veteran defensive line coach Jim Washburn and then ex-Miami head coach Todd Bowles -- who will succeed Castillo -- to help.

But ultimately the responsibility was Castillo's, and after his defense couldn't manage a sack in three weeks and couldn't protect a lead in two weeks, the Eagles were a staggering 3-3 heading into the bye week and some kind of shakeup was necessary.

Reid can't fire Michael Vick , he of the 13 turnovers this season, and he can't fire offensive coaches because Reid is really the offensive coordinator.
But make no mistake -- in firing Castillo, whose hire was all Reid's idea and now can be confirmed as a disaster -- Reid is trying to keep the wolves at bay at his door. Because he knows if Bowles fails, Reid will be gone soon after. And because Reid knows that, he had to fire a friend today -- a friend who never should have been given a job for which he wasn't qualified.

If the last five Chiefs teams under Mahomes played this exact schedule, they would likely be 9-1 or 10-0. This team has the best Chiefs defense since 97, but the offense is terrible.

Do you have Down Syndrome? Nowhere did I suggest the Chiefs fire Reid. I said he'd leave on his own, probably not for another year. This is the beginning of the end, though, because he won't do what he needs to for this team (fire bad assistants), and it will drive him to leave. The latter was inferred.

So the discussion about whether to fire Reid comes down to a hypothetical 2 or 3 game difference in the team's record, despite the fact that they are still atop the AFC and are the reigning Super Bowl champions? That's insanity.

Okay it seems the OP has been sufficiently beaten down, but just for the record, the Andy Reid coordinator hire that went sideways in Philadelphia - wasn't that the defensive coordinator? Think I remember he hired a special teams guy in that role. That's the side of the ball he needs great assistants running, not the offense.

Other than the inability to develop Skyy Moore, I'm not even sure what our assistant coaches are doing that is so wrong. Plays are called by Andy. Running game looks strong when we use it. The fact that people are dropping balls and that's the frustration point tells me that the coaches are putting players in position to make plays, they just aren't getting it done.
