Yep. The Jags were doing good until the Chiefs showed the blueprint to beat them. Same as the Steelers did to KC last year. The 49ers we're a good team as well. But they lost Jimmy G and never recovered. We beat a Ravens team that had won something like 5 in a row with Jackson. They beat the Chargers in Mahomes second ever start. And, every one of their losses we're close and to playoff teams. 3 of those 4 played in the divisional games and 2 of them are playing in the championship games. That's a far cry from beating the Jets, Bills, etc and losing to Miami and Jacksonville after the Jags went to crap.

The Colts focused on stopping the big play and keeping everyone in front and it mostly worked. But what people don’t understand, is unlike other teams, when you “slow” the Chiefs or stop the big play, they still go 15 yards at a time where other teams go 5-7 yards at a time. Sure enough the Chiefs just went 10-15 yards at a time. If you go the route of doubling one guy and risking the others beating you, the others will just shred the defense. If you blitz him then you will get exploited in the vacated areas.
For a few games it worked. But using Williams more effectively helped. Getting Watkins back really really helped. We're not explosive. But we can now give you death by 1000 papercuts. Losing hunt and Watkins may have been a blessing because we learned to develop a short game to balance our deep game.

As I said earlier in the thread... Watch mahomes' footwork now vs the Pats game. Watch his pre snap now vs the Pats game. Because mahomes doesn't routinely jack up 4 TDs a game anymore, I don't know that an outsider can appreciate how much better a qb mahomes is today vs the first pats game.

People were only pumping up the Jags because Bortles chucked four touchdowns against that vaunted Pats defense. Something called an "Austin Seferian-Jenkins" even caught one.

We had some very very slight hiccups for a few games but Williams and Watkins helped us develop some quick and short passing options. We may be known for our chunk plays. But we surgically carved indy up with a quick offense.
From memory, it did seem that Hunt was called upon more often in the med to long passing game. And that's fine. Maybe that will be a new wrinkle for Williams this week. Andy will find a way to create favorable match-ups, regardless of the personnel. Just a lot easier with all of our talent.

I think hunt was called on deep when mahomes was freelancing. A lot of his deep passes were broken plays where hunt ran a simple route and with time he broke free wide open. Not like Williams who can actually line up in the slot and run real routes. He's much more effective for a traditional passing game.

I will take your word on it as my memory is not what it used to be. Just seems like Hunt was catching more deep balls than what I've seen from Williams. But then again, Williams doesn't have nearly as many reps. I absolutely believe that Andy can scheme Williams in the short or long passing game. I think Williams' straight line speed is better than Hunt's...but Hunt was much better with yards after contact. That was his real strength. Both seem to have good hands.

Jamaal/Hunt/William it doesn't make a difference. We scheme your defense to death. You don't have the players or scheme to keep up with us.

The Patriots laid the groundwork throughout the season for stopping pass catching running backs with the amoeba fronts and some of the other disguises - some of which we saw briefly in the 1st half of the week 6 game with a lot of success. This isn't solely meant only to stop pass catching running backs, but more to confuse and overwhelm the opposing QB and OL.

What I think the Patriots will do for a good portion of the night to counter Williams in the passing game is to give the KC offense the impression that they will blitz in one direction, and either drop back and not blitz at all, or disguise where the blitz will actually come from. This will manipulate Mahomes into adjusting his backfield protection, and it will keep Williams in blitz pickup.

For example, we can show blitz up the middle, and force Mahomes to adjust the backfield protection accordingly, keeping Williams in to pick up the blitz, but feign the inside rush and send our DEs from the outside instead. We've set the stage for this unpredictability throughout the year with our amoeba fronts, which we have used only sparingly so far, and no offense has had an answer for it. It's nearly impossible to tell who will bring pressure on these plays.

I love how, according to Patriots fans, they simply “double Hill,” and all will be okay. You know, because they’ve contained Kelce and Watkins in the last game. So, assuming they didn’t “double” Hill the last game, which is why he was unstoppable, then how will they contain both Kelce and Watkins. All this while they ignore the fact that they have the 2nd worst road defense in the league. It’s as if they think Sauron will conjure up some never-before-seen defense that allows for “doubling” every receiver we have.

They will have to do what no team has done in about 4 years...score at least 30 to make it a game.

We win by 10.

I think you first need to familiarize yourself with what an amoeba front is, and then you can feel free to actually re-watch our games to see how infrequently we used it, as a % of all of our defensive snaps. We used it on only a couple of plays in the first half that game, which resulted in big 3rd down stops. No, the Chiefs did not have an answer for it. We used it sparingly throughout the season.
