And I may have said he played soft, but that didn't mean that I wanted him gone. This year, he has gotten tougher. Not as tough as I'd hoped but I still stand by my opinion that he gives this team much more than he gives up to opponents. Perry is very valuable. Just like we tried to tell CoMo that Sasha Kaun was not the most gifted offensively, he was extremely valuable on the defensive end.

There's no question that Perry Ellis is a good player. He is clearly among the best players in the conference and should have a spot on 1st team all-Big 12. The team would also be significantly worse if he suddenly got hurt tomorrow and we had to replace his minutes with Traylor/Bragg/Diallo the rest of the way. That doesn't mean I have to like watching him, though, or that anybody is a bad fan because they don't.

I stand by what I said. I've probably talked about it more than anybody. When Perry turned on the toughness switch last year it won tbe conference. It's really too bad he got hurt. It would have been interesting to see how far he could have taken us in the mindset he was in.

He's definitely been better in conference. And the conference record reflects that. But he isn't playing as tough as he did down the stretch last year, and I wish he would. Although I will admit his outside shot is a very big deal and helps the offense out a ton. And his defense has been better. Like I said during the Baylor game, they tried to isolate him on a guard and drive it at him and he crushed it. All over the floor. But I'd still rather take the Febraury 2015 Perry that was the best player in the league for those games.

Why I get worked up about it is all personal. When I played ball, granted I wasn't good, but hustle and toughness was all I had. It boggles my mind that guys don't go out and lay their shit all out to win. I understand it's my perspective and I'll never have the perspective of waking up as one of the best players in America despite whatever happened last night.

Haven't seen that Perry again since and probably won't again, but there's always that chance. The fire is in there somewhere...even if it is very, very deep.

Self mentioned yesterday that Perry's guarding the PnR much better than he was earlier in the season and that's definitely true. He looked genuinely good in that Baylor game at doing it. Only getting 2 rebounds in 36 minutes against a team that missed 39 shots is still inexcusable for somebody of his size and athleticism, though.

Here's a guy whose going to end his career statistically as one of the KU greats, has led a top ten team in scoring and rebounding for two straight years and is in legitimate conversation as conference player of the year for the 2105/2016 season and you sit there saying that he should be "so much better?"

You didn't do your reading since the last time you went on this tangent, did you? His totals are a product of minutes/opportunity. His rates show that Perry's nowhere near the team's best rebounder and not a particularly good one either.

I certainly don't have issue with people complaining, criticizing, critiquing or even flat bitching about players, coaches, etc.

It does get irritating is when you flood the entire thread with the same agenda in virtually every other post you make. It gets especially irritating when you post relentlessly. It's gotten to the point that i don't even try to keep up with this thread like previously.

I personally don't care, but what else would totals of this nature be a product of? I get that if it was like days of old where players stayed at least three years, Perry probably wouldn't be as high as he is, but you still have to take advantage of minutes/opportunity. He was primarily the low post scorer which means his offensive rebounds were going to be limited. I certainly wouldn't classify him as a prolific rebounder, but he had to do some. I mean you can't average 2 rebounds a game and be as high as he is even with his minutes/opportunity.

I think Perry has had an outstanding season this year. He's been our most consistent player, and on a team of a lot of "good but not great" players, he's the one player opposing coaches game plan around. It may be easier to limit him with concentrated effort, but if you don't, he will make you pay for it dearly. He's basically the only low post scoring threat we have, and if he wasn't as good as he is, the guards would find it much tougher than they do now.

Perry is best with an outstanding 5 position opposite him. He didn't have that this year and still produces at an All Conference level. I really have no issues with Perry.

Perry has been much better once Lucas emerged defensively.

He was always an athletic 4. Yeah, he should rebound better but he's not a liability per say that rears itself alot.

Had embiid not went pro and stayed, him and perry would have been awesome next to each other. Cliff too

The point was that his rebounding totals don't necessarily reflect as good a rebounder he is as much as they reflect how much he's on the court. We've had far better rebounders than him with worse overall totals (including Lucas this year, who is superior to anybody in the conference other than Gathers).
