Lamar Jackson wasn't, isn't, and never will be better than Patrick Mahomes

This "Lamar Jackson is in the same league as Mahomes" nonsense on every football related show I see needs to stop.

Lamar Jackson, on the biggest stage, has now shit down his leg in both opportunities. Lamar is a player who has to have everything around him working perfectly to have success. Put him down 2 scores and ask him to carry the team, he cannot answer the bell.

There's a big difference between a running quarterback, and a quarterback who can run. Lamar Jackson and The Ravens ran 88 plays and put up 12 points.

Jackson attempted 59 passes, only threw one touchdown, but also threw two picks and lost a fumble. 12 points on 59 pass attempts should tell you all you need to know about Lamar as a QB when the lights are the brightest.

Nobody would bat an eye if before the game, soneone told us Pat would put the ball up 59 times. Matter of fact, id be pretty excited to see how many points and yards he would put up in that span of plays.

When things got bad for both QBs, you saw the odds on favorite to win the MVP this year get visible frustrated, press, and ultimately fold. He was nowhere to be seen trying to work out what was happening, rallying his team, he simply pouted on the sideline as his team fell further behind.

The reigning MVP had literally no quit. Its one thing to say after the fact, that we had faith all along, its quite another for that to be true.

Down 24, think about that for a moment. 24. Mahomes is captured, in that moment on the sideline saying we have everything we want. Everyones already counted us the **** out, so go do something special.

Then, to walk the walk after talking the talk, leading the team to 7 straight touchdowns and 8 scoring drives, throwing 5 touchdown passes, and displaying a fiery emotion that if you dont feel anything when you see this kid going nuts after a huge play, call the coroner, because youre already dead.

The two qbs could not be further apart. Jackson cannot hold Mahomes jock when it comes to putting the team on his back.

Lamar should consider signing with KC as a running back. Its the only way barring injury to Mahomes, that hes ever getting a ring.

Mahomes is the MVP. Its not even close. Lamar is a running back executing the halfback pass play about 20-25 times a game.

Jacksons first two years have ended with dud playoff performances.

Mahomes first two years as a starter sees his team hosting back to back AFC title games for a frachise that in its entire history never hosted a single one before he arrived.

I love the idea of Ward and Sneed running long-term on the outside. That would be a dynamic pairing.

Re: the Ravens finding a pass rush... they're either going to have to get really lucky on a guy, take a chance on a guy with issues and have them hit big (i.e. Justin Houston), or change their whole defensive scheme to find the type of rush they need against KC.

They HAVE to pay Stanley and Jackson, no way around it. Unless both take les-than-top-of-market deals, it's going to be hard to fix other holes on the team in FA.
And they're REALLY good complementary fits to each other as well. It would be a heck of a nice long-term pairing, for at least a few years anyway.

Ultimately you're gonna structure that Ward deal so that you get out of it by the 2nd year of Sneed's 2nd contract (obviously presuming Sneed continues on this development arc).

As for the Ravens pass rush - I mean there are frequently 3-4 pass-rush specialists available for fairly cheap. You look at a guy like Jerry Hughes - he never really made bank and was always a dangerous pass rusher.

But you're looking at scouring one-trick ponies and/or guys on their 3rd deals so the wheels could fly off them in a hurry.

And as we discussed previously - the 3-4 is just a piece of shit front and it's going to make it hard for them to be truly versatile. What they'd need is a JJ Watt sort that can create havoc from the 5 technique and those are just so damn rare.

Can you imagine Chris Jones playing DE for them? 2018 Jones in their front would be an absolute nightmare. And he fell to the 2nd. It does happen on occasion.

The **** are the Ravens even going to do cap space wise? Stanley is probably going to get 23 to 24 million a year after Tunsil ****ed BOB in the ass, and Jackson is effectively a pick your poison situation. You're giving him either a Watson contract which would leave effectively no flexibility or a Mahomes deal which is a lot nicer short term but would cripple the team long term assumedly.

Jackson is one of those guys that has a lot of big stats and the regular season MVP. Unless the fanbase just openly rebels, SOC-style, or something, they'll have to pay him. It's going to be interesting because he's played good enough to warrant a decent contract but still has a ton of question marks about achieving team goals vs. individual awards.

Raven may not go anywhere with LJ. His passing is not coming along and is the reason they lose playoff games.

In fairness, this is the same thing that has been said about the Chiefs by Broncos and Raiders fans for 2 years.

"What are they going to do when they have to pay Mahomes? They'll never be able to keep Jones and add talent around them..."

Then we add Mathieu, retain Watkins, extend Jones AND get Clark his new deal.

Having talent is always a good thing and for as flawed as Jackson is, there are still at least 20 teams that would rather have him (AND his coming contract) over whatever they'll have under center.

I don't think the Ravens are going away and with a smart front office they'll find SOMETHING to deal with the Chiefs. But they're clearly the little brothers right now and they're gonna have to get lucky or see a fundamental transformation from Jackson to change that.

I mean I guess when we had cassel Dak would be intriguing as a guy who might give you an outside shot at a super bowl. Im just not impressed. Take away garbage yards and he's a borderline tier 2 guy. And that's with an incredible offensive supporting cast.

I could see lamar take a team friendly deal. Dude does seem like a good team player. But I just don't think that team has any wiggle room to take on any big contract for him. They can't win without a dominant defense and running game. Not only will lamar need to figure that out he'd have to do that routinely. Though to the ravens credit their front office is good enough to still pull it off but they have to be damn near perfect.

Jackson STILL hasn't hired an agent.

And he's only just now starting to dip his toes into some of these marketing opportunities. I still don't think he's signed with a major sportswear company.

He's either crazy like a fox or incredibly unsophisticated when it comes to stuff like this.

It'll be interesting to see what happens if Lamar tries to do this himself. The devil could end up in the details and it could go REAL poorly for him if he's not careful.

Anytime a DC goes into a game with the gameplan of "we want to make the QB have to beat us with his arm" I want nothing to do with said QB.

dude is a turd

this film may expose him - just blitz the shit out of the dude

https://footballfilmroom.com/2020/10...lamar-jackson/

Kansas City played man coverage on almost 50% of Baltimore’s called pass plays. Two thirds of those snaps were some kind of Cover-0 or combo-man coverage where there was no deep defender in the middle of the field. This was especially true against Baltimore’s empty formations.

Cornerback Rashad Fenton and safety Tedric Thompson were bracketing Brown. This was not man-free coverage with a safety providing help in the deep middle. Instead, Thompson immediately attacked the line of scrimmage at the snap to account for Brown’s route inside. The deep middle of the field was left wide open. It didn’t matter.

From the end zone angle, you can get a better sense of the idea behind the approach: Bring one more defender than the Ravens could protect to force a quick throw…

..and trust that your defensive backs will be able to play tight coverage and tackle well.

As long as the Chiefs could rush under control without getting too far upfield and allowing escape lanes, they could take Lamar’s legs out of the play and neutralize the Ravens’ offense out of empty formations.

Kansas City’s approach helped lead to a dismal night for the Ravens on 3rd down. On called pass plays, Baltimore converted just 1 of 7 attempts against the Chiefs. Jackson was 3 of 5 for just 14 yards with 2 sacks on the money down.

The lack of deep coverage with so many cover 0 looks should put to rest the argument that he doesn't have any WR's.

DC's completely abandon areas of the field when they don't respect the QB's ability to throw the ball there.
