I also have a hard time seeing past the tendencies of Reid and Veach. Past evidence indicates that they dont value off ball LB's enough to spend a high pick there. Maybe that changes with Queen or Murray and having a late pick but I'm skeptical.

Both the Eagles under Reid/Roseman where Veach came up and the Chiefs under Reid have basically ignored the position in the draft until the mid rounds.

But watching Andy/Spags try to mix and match that LB corps all season also demonstrates that they knew they had issues there.

If they see a set and forget solution, it might be too tempting for them to pass up.

The torch has been officially passed. For the first time in three years Mahomes overtakes Brady as the #1 Jersey seller in the NFL

I think Spags is going to want to run with 3 safeties and 2 LBs.....that can cover out of the backfield. Get Delpit and Gay.....and you’ve got a damn good base ****ing defense that does that.

And it’s been reported that we would’ve taken a LB in the 1st (likely Foster) if we didn’t trade up for Mahomes.

Oh, I get that but geez, if Love didn't have that arm strength, which is always tempting for GM's and coaches, he'd be what - a 5th round prospect at best?

The guy is Nate Peterman with a rocket arm.

I hope not.

Of all the QB's in this draft, I think Hurts is the most underrated.

He's not spectacular but he is solid and their defense is freakin' loaded.

That'll be the toughest part to navigate - how best to 'game' the draft to fill the most needs at the highest levels.
I take Delpit all day long over Queen/Murray because at 6'3 and a 4.39 40, he can do Safety, CB and LB things.

The other two cannot.

Screw it:

Delpit, Gay, Harrison as 1-2-3

Your box becomes Thornhill, Mathieu, Delpit, Gay and Harrison w/ your 4-down linemen and 2 starting CBs.

You're essentially running that Gary Patterson TCU 4-2-5 at that point, aren't you?

Feel like you'd probably get your ass kicked against the run though. Unless you could find a way to kick Jones out to DE and use Pennel/Saunders/Nnadi more often inside.

You'd have a shitload of mass in the trenches at that point.

Thompson has shown nothing, other than he's completely clueless on the field and has the ball awareness of an old turd.
Damien Williams worked out pretty well. This guy has a particular skill set that works for us. Oakland prefers RB's with a bit more pop, size, in their scheme. Elusiveness, pass catching, and speed work well in this system. That's what this guy is. More of a finesse RB. But obviously D Will is our man right now.

I'm just saying our options are open to taking the best player there. Our hands are not tied. Swift, Taylor, Dobbins works for me.

Past tendencies don't mean squat. They're well aware how bad our linebacking corp has continued to be, and they did unfortunately spend a 3rd on DOD a couple of years ago. If they'll spend a 3rd on him, there's no reason to believe they wouldn't spend a higher pick on a superior player.

They also haven't spent much draft capital high in the draft on interior OL or cornerback, but that doesn't mean they don't value them or never will. It's a mistake to read too much into past draft history.

I think lying season is more intense this year than ever. Less group think, and less opportunity to see through smoke screens early in the in person process.

Yeah, you’d for sure need another DT just for rotating purposes.

The Delpit chatter is intriguing. And I really get excited about the idea of a Delpit-Gay 1st and 2nd round.

Yes, if they're running basically a 425 look, it might have some trouble against power running attacks, but if they add Gay, the 43 base should be better against the run than it was with Lee and less vulnerable in the pass game than it was with Ragland.

I think they'd still use the base against a team like the Raiders, but be better situated against teams that like to run out of shotgun and 11 personnel.

If the Chiefs grab a guy whos the bpa (say a tackle) as far as their board sits, would you be mad if they slid up in the 2nd to grab a guy like gay? ( i know gay may be a much later selection). What if we walked away with only 3 or 4 selections this year?
