NFL Draft Someone explain to me what makes Aaron Curry worth the 3rd pick? - Page 32

Since I'm seeing people starting to lean that way I really want to know...he's not a rusher 9 1/2 sacks in 4 years...he has nearly as many INT's as he does sacks over the course of his college career...

Does this mean he's a bad player no it doesn't, but the type of LB he is does not make him worth a top 5 pick. Fathom this Ernie Sims was taken 10 as a traditional 4-3 OLB he's a very nice player...is he a difference maker up in Detroit, he's not. And it can be easily argued that he's more naturally gifted than Curry is..the OLB position in a 4-3 is not a game changing core position.

Not to mention you could sign the #1 LB on the market of FA for half of what you'd have to pay Curry to do the same thing.

He WAS selected 6th overall, so regardless of the forum members opinions, the one that counted felt he was worthy of a Top Ten selection. The only reason that Ray was brought up was the assertion that LB's are worthless and LB's who dont rush the passer were less than that. Lewis and Brooks are just examples of being very important to a team without being sack artist.

Gholston because of his potential was a top 10 pick no doubt. I didnt like him, but he still has talent. I dont think a guy with motivation problems is a top 5 pick (some even said #1 overall). All the guys I argued were better picks should they drop to the Chiefs have thusfar turned out to be better choices. Again, I hope he does well but he's not done it yet. Like you said Ryan could defianatly light a fire!

Yes, SD rebounded nicely by years end (after all it is a team sport) but imagine that D if Merriman were there all season. Its a different D.

I don't blame him or stafford for not going, they are already seen as the top prospects and can only hurt themselves by having a subpar showing at the combine.

I'm just saying, in the next couple years you will see why I said I'd take Maclin over Crabtree.... - not that crabtree will be horrible, just that Maclin hasn't had alot of national exposure, he's only a sophmore, has hands and wheels. And who are the "lots of top players" missing from the Combine?

Mecca thinks that Sims (Lions) was a better prospect than Curry. Scott Wright, who Mecca respects, had Sims as the 13th rated player in the draft. When I asked why is Curry ranked #2 in this years draft if he isn't better than Curry, I was told that he is #2 because it is a weak draft class.

Assuming that is true - that in a stronger draft class Curry would be ranked behind Sims in the 15-20 range, what does that say about Sanchez who is currently 6 spots below Curry? Would that mean in a stronger draft class Sanchez is a late first rounder? Why should KC reach at the #3 spot for someone who would normally be a late 1st rounder?

Listen. This is a shitty draft. If you go through and look at the two or three top prospects at nearly every position in this draft you find most of them are players who wouldn't be top prospects in most other years. Crabtree is the exception. Go read some scouting reports on this kid, despite the fact that he can't run a 4.2 they all still say he is the best WR to come out of the draft in years. I've seen scouts comparing his skills to Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson regularly. Of all the positions in the draft where players might move in and out of the #1 spot, WR is probably the most solid this year. Crabtree IS the #1 WR in the 2009 draft and you can bet the farm on that one.

Scouts? Or Internet scouts? Either way, I don't buy it.

I'd bet all my casino cash that regardless of draft position, there will be a wide receiver (if not several) that are ultimately more successful than Crabtree.

And YOU can bet the farm on that one.

And no one has really convinced why he's not, other than that you don't pick LBs that high. Of course then it's OK to take a CB that high, even though that hasn't been done in the last decade, and only one time in the history of the NFL.

The Jenkins question needs to be answered, too, especially since one of the negatives on him is that he lacks "elite" speed.

Dude isn't Sanders, and we're talking about the #3 overall pick...
