Huh? As in 5 weeks ago? The half where it was a tie game with 2 minutes left and they were down 6 at halftime? That one? Huh?

You may need half a new feed.

I mean, if you're going to freak out, do it after the incredibly soft game at ISU, or the terrible second half at OSU... FFS.

I feel bad for Rusty.

Speaking of ISU, Paul Biancardi just picked them to beat KU Saturday on Katz Korner.

I don't think there's any easy solution with Selden. He just has to play better and harness that high level that has has shown on occasion more frequently. That has to involve making his open threes, choosing his spots to drive wisely, limiting his mistakes offensively, and staying defensively committed for an entire game.
If he would use his absolutely ridiculous size strength and athleticism on defense and rebounding he would be an incredible player. That board he got at Baylor was just reeruned. There isn't anything you can do about it. And he's done it what? Once?

Travis Releford dedicated himself to the defensive side of the ball and became as good of an on the ball defender as I've ever seen in the NCAA. Selden is far more of a physical presence than him and is every bit as athletic as Releford.

Even if he would just a Adopt the Releford model and shut ****ers down and hit open shots he'd be incredibly more valuable than what he is now.

1. Kansas (26–4) LW: 1

Offensive Scouting Report: It all starts with senior power forward Perry Ellis, who’s been around forever but hasn’t ever been this good. Kansas used to feed Ellis primarily on the blocks, but he’s added an occasional three to his arsenal (he’s making 47.2% of them this season), and it’s become more advantageous for KU to let him start with the ball on the perimeter and then go to work.

The Jayhawks will frequently open halfcourt possessions against man-to-man D with a high ballscreen set by Ellis for point guards Frank Mason or Devonte’ Graham. Ellis will pop to the three-point line after the guard drives off the screen, receive the ball, and size up his defender. In KU’s Feb. 29 win over Texas, the Longhorns switched some of these screens, leaving 5'11" Javan Felix on the 6'8" Ellis, and Ellis’s obvious best option was to attack off the bounce. For a power forward, his dribble-drive pacing and control is impressive, and helps him maintain a low turnover rate:

When Kansas uses junior center Landen Lucas as the initial screener, he’ll roll to the rim and Ellis will replace him at the top of the key, and receive a kick-out from a guard who has collapsed the defense. Ellis can then shoot the three, or shot-fake and attack the opposing big man’s closeout off the bounce, as he does here against Texas’s Connor Lammert:

Kansas is taking more threes than it has in years past—35.8% of its Big 12 shot attempts have been treys, which isn’t a high ratio when compared to three-point-oriented teams such as Oklahoma or Villanova, but it’s high for a Bill Self team. The two guys most impacted by this are guards Wayne Selden and Graham, who are taking more threes than twos for the first time in their careers. Graham has been the team’s hottest long-range shooter in Big 12 play, and he’s especially effective at pulling up for threes in transition. He’s a big reason why they’re fourth in the nation in three-point percentage, at 42.6%.

Kansas also has a unique weapon it can bring off the bench—a 6'7" wing, Brannen Greene, who makes 53.6% of his treys. Greene’s playing time is fairly limited because he’s a defensive liability, but if he subs in for an out-of-bounds play or the final possession of a half, it’s a safe bet that the Jayhawks will try to run him off multiple screens—either staggered or the “elevator doors” alignment that’s all the rage these days—to set up a three. Here’s an example from their win over West Virginia on Feb. 9:

I would not consider zoning this team—Ellis is the perfect power forward for operating in the middle of a 2-3, and the Jayhawks as a whole average 1.45 PPP on unguarded catch-and-shoot situations. If your zone is slow to recover, it’s over.

Shortcomings: KU isn’t a killer offensive rebounding team in its four-out, one-in alignment, which often keeps Ellis out of prime putback positions. ... Selden’s turnover rate (16.8% of his possessions in Big 12 games) is a bit high for a sharpshooter who plays off the ball, and his streakiness as a shooter is still a concern. ... The turnover rates for the Jayhawks’ backup bigs—senior Jamari Traylor, and freshmen Cheick Diallo and Carlton Bragg—are alarmingly high and drag down the offense when Lucas or Ellis is off the court.

Frank Mason is almost replicating Melo Trimbles production and is even a more efficient FG and 3FG shooter, yet nobody nationally seems to give a shit. Yet they say Trimble is a 2nd team AA

Jayhawks look primed for deep tourney run

Throw out Kansas’ 86-56 thrashing of Texas on the road. It was an outlier game. But I agree with Ken Pomeroy that the Jayhawks are the top college team going into March Madness. Here’s why:

Toughness - Kansas has mature and tough players at every position. Frank Mason leads the charge at the point. Wayne Selden anchors the wing. Inside, Perry Ellis and Landen Lucas are physical players with Jamari Traylor coming off the bench. These guys fear nobody.

Experience - The Jayhawks start one senior, three juniors and one sophomore. This is the type of team that Bill Self thrives with in the NCAA Tournament. On Kansas’ national championship team in 2008, the Jayhawks started two seniors, one junior and a sophomore. Contrast that to the teams in which they’ve had high lottery picks and sputtered — like in 2014, when KU won just one game with Andrew Wiggins in the NCAA tourney — and it seems Self has the kind of club he loves heading into postseason play.

Depth - I think depth is typically overrated in college basketball, but for what it’s worth, Kansas has plenty of it. The frontcourt is loaded. Jamari Traylor comes off the bench and there’s also two McDonald’s All Americans - Cheick Diallo and Carlton Bragg - at Bill Self’s disposal playing a reserve role. Hunter Mickelson, a four-star recruit, is also available. On the wing, Brannen Green and Sviatoslav Mykhailuk are deadly threats from deep. There isn’t a bona fide backup point guard, but starting shooting guard Devonte Graham can slide over to the point. He has better than a two-to-one assist-to-turnover ratio.

Offense - Kansas is No. 7 in adjusted offense according to Ken Pomeroy. They can score in transition and in half-court sets, which might be where the Jayhawks are most dangerous. Perry Ellis is a go to scorer with four years of experience. And the Jayhawks have the ability to hurt opponents inside and outside with a balanced attack.

Ellis, Mason, Selden, Graham, Green and Bragg are all shooting over 40 percent from three-point range. Sviatoslav Mykhailuk is just under 40 percent but has come on of late as a serious deep threat. As a team Kansas is shooting 43 percent from three, second only to Michigan State who is at 43.3 percent.

As far as overall field goal percentage, Kansas is No. 8 nationally at 49.3 percent.

Defense - Kansas is No. 5 in adjusted defense according to Ken Pomeroy. Mason is a lockdown defender at the point of attack — he hounded Buddy Hield when Kansas and Oklahoma played this year — and the Jayhawks play exceptional team defense.

Coaching - Bill Self is a arguably the best coach in college basketball. He has had some early defeats in the NCAA tournament but has also won a championship and finished runner-up.

In line with Pomeroy, I like the complete nature of Michigan State and Virginia, who he has number two and three, but I love the completeness of No. 1-ranked squad Kansas.
