Someone explain to me what makes Aaron Curry worth the 3rd pick?

Since I'm seeing people starting to lean that way I really want to know...he's not a rusher 9 1/2 sacks in 4 years...he has nearly as many INT's as he does sacks over the course of his college career...

Does this mean he's a bad player no it doesn't, but the type of LB he is does not make him worth a top 5 pick. Fathom this Ernie Sims was taken 10 as a traditional 4-3 OLB he's a very nice player...is he a difference maker up in Detroit, he's not. And it can be easily argued that he's more naturally gifted than Curry is..the OLB position in a 4-3 is not a game changing core position.

Not to mention you could sign the #1 LB on the market of FA for half of what you'd have to pay Curry to do the same thing.

The problem seems to be that people on both sides of the debate feel like there's no one but their choice that's worth the #3 pick. To me, it's a sign that there aren't that many players coming out with elite talent, and it sucks that the year we decide to take a bath on the season is the same year that the draft class sucks at the top.

I disagree with this.

The people in the Sanchez camp act this way for sure.

The people who aren't in that camp, for the most part, say that if Pioli/Haley likes him enough to take him there though, they'll be cool with it.

The other group basically says that if they don't take one of the 2 QBs then Pioli and Haley are morons.

I honestly don't understand the continued talk of a weak draft class and it being a bad thing to be at the top. There are two top QB prospects, and, with the #3 pick, it's almost certain one will be available. Just so happens the Chiefs have a major need at this position.

This is a great year for the Chiefs; there aren't always 2 top QB's.

Yeah, yeah, you all have "doubts" about Sanchez. If it weren't him, it would be "doubts" about QB X...

Meh, we have had great offenses and defenses in my time as a Chiefs fan and neither brought us a superbowl. The closest we've had to a successful QB that we DRAFTED is frigging Tyler Thigpen. That may be representative for our entire existence as a pro franchise. I can't think of another QB that we drafted and has ever seriously been considered adequate to being a starter in the NFL. (He sure did better than our supposed starter for the last two seasons.) *** Forgot that we didn't draft Thigpen, got him from the Vikes if I remember correctly.***

I'd love to see a great defense with a mediocre offense or a great offense with a mediocre defense. We just never seem to have both at the same time.

I'm all for drafting a QB, but only if the talent level is there. I fricking HATE USC, and we all know how well Matt Leinhart turned out... I can think of at least 3 QBs still at the college level that I like better than Stafford or Sanchez... this year sucks to be picking in the top 5. (Bradford or McCoy or Tebow FTW.)

Wouldn't it be nice if we could trade our 1st and 3rd this year for the Jets or another team on the decline's 1st this year and 1st next year? Pick up some sleeper in the 4th or 5th this year, put him in direct competition with Thigpen and Gray during training camp and the pre-season, may the best man win.

2-14 sucked this season, but lets make the best of our pick and not pick a QB just because we need a QB... there is plenty of time for Pioli to right the ship, and this year doesn't have to be the year we blow our wad on a QB.

You'd prefer Croyle or a converted TE at the #3 overall selection?

Tebow has shown he can win games under pressure. Heisman be damned, I don't care about that shit. Tebow has moxy.

Bradford, I watched him play a couple games this last season and was extremely impressed. The kid is young and talented and is going to have another year to develop. Sanchez is a flash in the pan in my opinion, and I just don't see any scout being good enough to know anything about him in one season.

Bradford is quite possibly not a good pick, I am referring to the Bradford after another year to develop and similar or better play from him this coming season.

McCoy, admittedly I don't know a whole lot about the kid. He is a terrific player and prospect with another year to mature.

My biggest point is that we don't have to pick a QB this year... there are certainly some excellent prospects for next year as well.

You act like the "True Fans" on the board are the only ones with those "doubts." There is a reason why so many have him as a mid first round prospect in this weak class. Hopefully all those people are wrong though, and we draft him, and he is great.

I hope so, too.

From now until draft day, my question to those who think Sanchez is unworthy of the #3 selection is going to be this:

Would you welcome selecting Davis or Freeman in round 2?

With few exceptions, this is going to be a reliable idiot detector, for reasons I noted earlier in this thread.

I see what you're saying, but depending on what you look for in a QB, I can see that side too.

It's kind of like Flacco to Ryan last year IMO. Flacco had the strong arm and Ryan had the experience, intangibles, etc. I kind of look at Freeman and Davis about like Flacco.

I disagree with everything you've stated in this post.

Have you ever watched any college football that runs anything other than the spread offense? Because all of the QB's you "like", all run the spread, which does not translate to the NFL.

On the other hand, the Pro Style offense that Stafford and Sanchez run DO translate to the NFL.

Yikes.

And Tebow's a gimmick player on offense. He'll convert to tight end or linebacker in the NFL.

I'd like to trade out of #3 and get 2 first round picks like we did in the 2008 draft.

Enough people on this board have seen Freeman play that he's not highly coveted, at least from what I can see. But few, however, have seen much if anything of Davis, aside from the conference championship game, where he looked like ass.

For this crowd, the yes to Davis will be based primarily on bullshit reasons and fear. Taking a far riskier prospect with an extremely valuable draft choice is ****ing dumb.

This sounds almost poll worthy. Sanchez in round 1 or Davis/Freeman in round 2, which would you prefer? Public poll, of course.

Might not be 100 percent accurate, but he's no 220. Not close.

He'll get killed in the NFL.
