The strategy appears to be hold out and hope the Chiefs lose so I can get more money for myself. His right but there is so much downside in this approach it just boggles the mind that he thinks this is a smart way to do it.

Easy, they can't force him to play and they don't have to pay him.

This is really souring me on the dude. He's clearly an idiot or is getting really bad info. The constant cryptic shit is annoying as hell. He's been much more annoying to me than Tyreek Hill has. I love Chris Jones, but shit he's really played this terribly bad.

I don't like the way he's going about it either but I don't see Veach getting around it. We're looking to hang another banner and without Chris Jones our defense likely won't hold up in the Playoffs.

Crazy offseason. Is there any precedent for this many holdouts in one season?

Nfl salaries are due for a mega correction. We’ve seen an insane run on mega deals and we ain’t even done yet. It’s not that jones isn’t worth Donald money, it’s that Donald’s money existed in a universe where lots of free money was floating around. The bright side is that as nfl position group salaries reset, chiefs will again be able to find affordable talent. Bad news is this offseason looks to be a last ditch effort for players to use old benchmarks.

So where does it go from here? Because QBs are locked in long term. I’m assuming the salary cap will go up?

Has Chris Jones' holdout affected any betting markets? Week 1 line? Super Bowl odds? ANYTHING?

With Chris Jones trying to squeeze every last dime out of the Chiefs like this, to hell with him. Use the money on the offensive line instead. If you keep Mahomes upright the Chiefs are almost impossible to beat.

Can they still choose not to pay him when his stupid ass finally decides to show up? Can they divert the money that was budgeted for him to another player who actually wants to play?

The reason the Chiefs are not submitting to Jones and Katz is because they don’t want to compromise future cap flexibility. Why would losing one game change that strategy? I doubt your theory is Jones’ approach at all.

Of course that’s his approach at this point. He’s attempting to use the threat of losing games in his absence as leverage to achieve a better contract. It’s not like they’re 20mm/yr apart - it’s probably ~3mm/yr that the Chiefs could certainly make happen but don’t feel they should. Jones hopes that the threat of having a season upended in his absence is enough to wring some concession from the team.

His thought is: lose some money here upfront by missing games but make up for it with a better contract when the defense struggles in his absence and the team caves.

It’s a bold strategy, Cotton.

Seriously? You dont see how Jones would think if KC loses without him, it would better his position? Of course he thinks that.

Exactly, if he's going to keep this up, it's really his only play now.
