Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

Why I like Sierra:
I have tried probably 10-12 bullets in my rifle, and it likes two the best: 69 grain Sierra Hollow Point Boat Tails, and 55 grain Hornady V-Max. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me, because those bullets are pretty damn different, but is what I have found. You need to match bullet weight/length to your twist rate in the barrel. Mine is 1 in 8. 1 in 7 can shoot anything from 55-80 grains. 1 in 8 generally is in the same range. 1 in 9 is common and generally limits the use of the 77 and higher grain bullets, but 55 grainers usually shoot well. 1 in 12 and I would only shoot 55 and lower probably. But like everything, differences in individual barrels and bullets matter and the numbers are only a starting point. You really can't go wrong with Sierra, Hornady, or Nosler right now though. 3 very good manufacturers. I find boat tailed bullets to be a little bit easier to reload because they sit on the case better. I am generally limited to about 300 yards, so I don't see much if any accuracy difference with them. I think cannellures are unnecessary (at least for .223), and frankly like to load my rounds pretty long anyway, so they are actually a hindrance. Hollow points shoot better than everything else generally. FMJ generally shoots worse than everything else. |

I had a good day at the ammo counter. I went in and bought a nice pair of Leupold binoculars ($200 off on a closeout) and also checked the ammo. They had 20 rounds of 5.56 for $10.99, limit 5 boxes. The last thing I need is more AR ammo, the last I checked I think I was at 6500 rounds, but I figured what the hell for that price and picked up 5 boxes.
I was running late for picking up a client for lunch so I didn't pay attention to the visa amount at the time and hurried out of the store to go get my client for lunch. It was only when I got home and checked the receipt for warranty registration that I figured out that at checkout, I was only charged for one box of ammo, not 5. I just called the store to tell them that I would be by tomorrow to make up the difference and was told by the manager, "you're a great customer, don't worry about it." Bottom line 100 rounds of Ammo for the AR for $10.99.

Sierra matchking is the best for 5.56 and .308. I use them in my ar 10s and ar 15s and they are 1/2" to 3/4" accurate with benchmark powder, with some ragged hole groups. For plinking we picked up a ton of zombie max 50 grainers for 59 bucks per 500. Nosler custom comps are sierra matchking clones, and are considerably cheaper when purchased in bulk.
Midsouth.com and powdervalley.com are excellent priced stores. Good luck finding primers. |

The Para Ordnance 1911 is such a badass gun. I shot better with it then my xdm 9mm. My wife even lit the range up with it. It's too bad ammo is expensive for it. Ordered 200 rounds of pmc 45 acp for $117 shipped. With that included, I only have 380ish fmj rounds.

Damn, you have to reload .45. We bought several thousand lead bullets for .06/piece and it takes very little powder.

As to price I'm pretty sure he's not saying 10.99 for 100 rounds but 10.99 per box of 20 or 54.95 total.
