Players are being dumb shits. Gonna piss this generous offer away because they don't want an international draft for some reason. Owners aren't even trying to rush the draft and are willing to come up with the best way to run it.
I like the idea of an international draft. Its the most fair way of doing it. |

There are already international spending caps. So you take those caps, put in a mandatory floor for international draft spending, aggregate the caps as a spending pool for overall international draft spending and then stagger the amounts down the draft to create the same kind of slotting system that presently exists for the entry draft. Like many other things being proposed by MLB now and in the past, this would take the very top off the international market while simultaneously taking that same amount of spending and re-allocating it throughout the international draft pool. And now the MLBPA will come out with more populist horseshit when in reality THEY are the ones who continue to spit on proposals that will create benefits for a larger number of people, all in the name of protecting the big chunk benefits presently given to a select few. Why? Because it's easier for the agents to make their nut that way and right now it's the agents driving this bullshit. The players are absolutely ****ing this up. But again, the sports media LIVES off leaks from agents so they'll continue to carry water for the MLBPA when it's been the MLBPA that has been wholly unreasonable throughout this process and going as far back as 1994. But let's keep having the same tired 'populist' sportswriters weeping for the players that are cutting their own throats. Let 'em sit out a year and break their !@#$ing backs.

Let's say you're Scott Boras and you can get 5 big name clients that sign $600 million in extensions in an offseason and you get 3% (I think 3-5 is industry standard and the % falls as the raw dollars rise).
That's $18 million in fee and you had to cater to 5 !@#$ing guys to get it. Now let's say a system is in place where those 5 guys are looking at $400 million between them. Meanwhile that other $200 million is now parsed among 10 other 'middle class' players. You've gotta hustle your ass off to try to get those 10 guys signed to your agency and make that money back. And you have to increase your overhead substantially to do it. Now you've got 15 guys you have to accommodate and you'd better be providing them quality services or those 10 'cheap' players will go find some hungry up and comer who will gladly take them on to build that agency up. Even if it takes 10 different up and comers taking on all 10 of 'em. So you can't cut corners on those 10 or you just lose 'em. And once you start to lose them, you start to lose your grip on stuff like this. So please PLEASE try to tell me that this isn't about established SuperAgents trying to maintain their paydays and their death grip on the industry. Absolutely everything about a more even playing field financially is BAD for them. Extremely bad for them, in fact. And yet that's where the "MLBPA" is trying to push things? Bullshit. This is agent driven garbage and a pile of dumb ****ing players that have bought into the 'us against them' rhetoric that professional gasbags like Scott Boras have sold them. It's friggen infuriating.

And guys like KCN have tried to paint the owners as operating in bad faith throughout this because some dickhead with an agent contact on Twitter said so.
Real reliable narrators you've chosen there, guys. If you can't see what this is - what this has been from Day 1 - then you just haven't been paying attention at all. The players entered this process being unreasonable. They had extremely wealthy, established union reps come telling them that the owners locking them out was unreasonable so it is time to earn their pound of flesh. And then they promptly set about proving EXACTLY why the owners had to lock them out.

Anyway, I'm far from surprised the owners just cancelled more games today. Both these sides may get serious at some point, but that point isn't going to be any time soon. |

The league actually gave the players the option of accepting their offer of removing the QO and simply thinking about the international draft for ~2 years and if then there still wasnt an agreement on a draft then they go back to the table and start again.
Like... holy ****ing shit. You got exactly what you were wanting for at least 2 years and you still wouldnt take it. |

Feels like the ball is in the players' court.
But it is true that they should have been having these discussions months ago so we never got to this point. Disappointing. |

The idea of an international draft has been on the table for months and according to Heyman the league had believed that a trade of QO for draft was agreed upon by the union long before it just became an issue in the last 24 hours. This is nothing new.

This isn't some new offer that was never discussed before. Just because you didn't hear about it til now doesn't mean it wasn't discussed. There are even tweets out there made by the MLBPA puppets talking about how the league believed there was an agreement in place for a trade of QO for international draft. Now why would they believe that to be the case if they just put it on the table just now and it wasn't discussed? Don't think too hard about that. |

The players were assholes during Covid. Plenty of them wanted their full pay for a half a season with empty stadiums and no revenue for the owners. **** them. They’re being petty.

There's a deal to be made here if both sides were actually willing to make one, but that doesn't appear to be the goal of either side at the moment. |
