Can't believe the regular season starts tonight. Just seemed like the Finals ended a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, when I saw him, he was immobile and at the end of his career. Jokic can get up and down the floor and to the basket.

And with that savvy and those unique movements, he puts himself in positions to make plays that he simply ALWAYS makes.

Jokic is the same way. He has a combination of unique agility for a man his size and insane field/court awareness that create looks for himself that nobody else gets. And then, like Kelce, he simply cashes them in at an incredibly high rate because he's swiss-watch consistent.

Think of Jokic as a basketball Kelce and things will make a LOT of sense.
Thanks, that makes a ton of sense!

So with that said, is anyone willing to humor me and give me a feel for WHY Jokic is such an outlier? Obviously he's a monstrosity of a human being, but if that was all there was to it, you'd think that there would be a long history of 300 pound dudes dominating in basketball. Shaq comes to mind, but it doesn't seem like that's the norm for most superstars.

What is it that Jokic does that is so unusual? Is it just the insane ability to hit shots that don't look like he should have even tried? He pushes his weight around in a particularly effective way? His ability (and willingness) to distribute the ball?

Just trying to get some broader context around it so I can not look like such a n00b in water cooler conversations. As you can imagine, the city is pretty amped up about the Nuggets this week.
Do 300 pound dudes automatically dominate in football?

What separates awesome OL from the merely good?

You can start out by watching their footwork.

He has really good footwork and really good hand eye coordination. So he can post up and work his way down to the rim. Or just hit floaters like a guard. Or hit open threes like a guard. Or pass like a guard.

But he isn't really that quick.

For a league MVP, his defense is meh.

Good answers here there is also a shade of Mahomes in his passing. Way back when point guards would do some ridiculous shit to get the ball in tight spaces before the NBA changed the rules and opened the game up. But Jokic does some ridiculous shit with the ball that I’ve never seen before.

Also leverage is insane. Remember when Weigman was doing amazing shit at incredibly light weights because he understood leverage and technique? It’s like that except Jokic is typically bigger than the dudes he’s whipping like a rented mule.

There is also something to be said for him not needing to be the guy. Basketball has suffered (IMO) from dudes thinking they’re Jordan and they’re going to line up and beat a guy one on one. And to some degree, dudes egos need that. Jokic isn’t that. He’s going to get the easy shot for somebody and he doesn’t give a ****. And dudes will play harder knowing that if they make the cut hard the ball will be there. It is really VERY different from what we’ve seen.

Me thinking about how I like Jokic and how it sucks when a great player gets hurt, but then remembering that if the Nuggets lose the series a bunch of Broncos fans will be sad

Perhaps I am missing it, but for as gifted as Jokic is offensively, he doesn’t seem to be much of a defender.
