I would think most people now know Geno is going top 5 and most likely we'll be in the 15-20 range for the next few years. I know Phil pointed out the other later 1st round picks have had success, but this is a different time with the new CBA and emphasis on passing/scoring so the guys that used to be there won't be.

People can talk about whoever they want in the next draft, but odds are we won't be in a position to take a guy that is as good of a prospect as Geno and that is where the frustation comes in.
Frustrating no doubt.

I'm not a huge fan of taking a rotational guy that early. Hell, at this point, I'd rather them just take a RT and be done with it.

That's a problem. Way to much money for the nickel. Would make a great nickel though.

Just not so sure as the #2 CB?

But at the end of the day, the way I look I at it, it's about improving your secondary in every imaginable way possible. To me that means having good starters, depth, and great coaching.

*Milliner would give the Chiefs a really good starter next to Flowers. This is the only issue the chiefs have back there imo. The #2 CB spot is still questionable in my mind. If they could get Milliner, that second starting spot would be locked down. Just by addressing that #2 CB, this secondary would be solidfied.

But Alex Smith wasn't the one "providing" wins in San Francisco.

He road the coattails of the #2 defense.

Everyone knows that. Everyone also knows that despite what you claim is a lack of offensive talent, a better QB produced more with the same players.

And it's not just Kaepernick. Even in 2008, the 49ers were a better offense without Alex Smith. Shaun Hill outplayed him, fer crissakes.

Sorry, but Alex Smith simply cannot make the throws Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub and Trent Green can/could. He'll never be as successful as those guys, unless he again rides the coattails of a top running game and defense.

It's lunacy to think he's going to be anywhere close to those guys.

Yeah, but they're marginal improvements.

I don't know about you, but my standards are higher then marginal. I'd like to see them improve the #2 CB signficantly.

Holy shit.

The 2008 49ers averaged 20.1 PPG with Shaun Hill.

With Alex Smith in 2007: 11.7 PPG.

With Alex Smith in 2009: 19.8 PPG.

With Alex Smith in 2010: 19.5 PPG

You have your opinion, I have mine.

If Alex Smith stinks it up this year, it won't matter who's right or wrong because he'll be gone by the end of 2014.
