Let's talk about the Ravens

Quite possibly a preview of the AFC Championship game.

Hopefully we can get healthy by Sunday

He doesn’t “look” better. You’re clearly basing this off of the completion % because anybody watching knows he doesn’t “look” better.

Josh Allen also has a high % so far as well. But that's against NYJ and Miami. I'm not buying it in either case.

There is some legitimacy to the point that he’s less effective throwing outside the hashes but he’s also 23 years old. To say the man can’t pass the ball is just insane. He has an amazing presence in the pocket to sense pressure and either escape or get rid of the ball. He’s improved this year too. It’s early but it’s evident in watching the games. He’s improved his comp% on passes 15+ yards down the field from 44% to 63%. He’s also accomplishing everything with pretty limited receiving weapons. Hollywood is a stud but was playing on one foot last year and mark andrews is a good TE who was also hobbled by injuries. If you continue to think Lamar can’t throw the ball then your football IQ stinks.
You’re a dumb homer. When trailing the last two seasons Lamar’s passing grade is 62.2. That’s behind Trubisky, Flacco and Haskins. The Ravens are the Chiefs with Alex Smith. Hoping you don’t get behind because you’re not built to come back and defenses want your QB to pass like they did us with Smith. Glad that’s not us anymore. Have fun with that.

He’s a limited QB. Teams WANT him to pass. That’s not a great QB. That’s a gimmicky weapon on offense with little room for error. Homer ****.

At no point in his life has Lamer Jackson ever been better than Andy Dalton at throwing the ball.

Lamar Jackson is a good football player. He absolutely knows how to make the most of what he has.

He also benefits from a good coaching staff and a scheme that maximizes his strengths.

What the Ravens do on offense is fairly unique and to Lamar's credit, he's the reason why.

That being said, the whole thing is predicated on being able to execute that gameplan. Run the ball, use his legs to keep the defense guessing, exploit the middle of the field.

When things don't go according to plan, that's when his game starts to break down.

He's really hard to evaluate, honestly because he's probably THE system QB in the league right now. The flip side of that is that the system is designed around HIM.

Elite passing stats? Yeah, against shitty teams.

Here are his passing stats against the better teams he played last season:

KC: 267, 0 TDs, 0 Ints, 70.6 Rating
PIT: 161, 1 TD, 3 Ints, 54.9 Rating
SEA: 143, 0 TD, 0 Ints, 69.4 Rating (45% Comp)
NE: 163, 1 TD, 0 Ints, 107.7 Rating
SF: 105, 1 TD, 0 Ints, 86.3 Rating
Buf: 145, 3 TD, 1 Ints 102.5
Ten: 365, 1 TD, 2 Ints, 63.2 Rating (59 attempts, 52% Comp)

A couple of okay passing performances against NE and Buffalo, but a lot of meh in there too.

Yes, he was great against the Browns in Week 1. He was also great against the Browns in Week 15 last year too. Just like he was great against the Dolphins, Texans, Rams, and Jets last year.

Except for two scenarios:

- Jackson has an injury taking away his mobility. A more pocket oriented QB like Mahomes still managed to get by in the pocket. Jackson completely falls apart as a passer if an injury keeps him from being able to run effectively.

- Baltimore is down big. Jackson doesn't have time to run much, forcing him to throw. See the playoff game. Jackson was ineffective.

Lamar is a much better passer than some people think but at the same time he will never be a Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson. Hell, Kyler Murray is a better thrower as well.

Lamar has great mobility and ball placement instinct. Eventually, the defense breaks and then he can wrist flick to a guy wide open on the move.

Lamar reminds me of Michael Vick when he was with Andy. Harbaugh is doing what Andy did. Making a very structured offense with QB friendly reads.

It was very obvious last week.

Force him to play beyond that structure and make passes under pressure. That’s the key.

Yeah, and I probably should mention that I have both the low mgs and the high mg patches, and when I do the 3 patch thing it's a combo of two lows and a high. I wouldn't try 3 high mgs patches, ever. Also, to anyone reading this stuff, "don't do what I do."

I used to have a T-shirt that said "Better living thru Chemistry"

And I almost never do multiple patches. 99.9% of the time it's just the one patch.

There's your public service announcement.

In the last game, didn't Lamar throw up 2-3 absolute prayers that should've both been intercepted but somehow both fell into the receivers' hands? Ha. That game should have been a blowout.

Funny how Ravens fans only remember a couple dropped passes and count it as an "almost" win.

One of them was caught. The other resulted in a DPI penalty because it hung in the air so long.

Lamar is a great athlete. Probably the best athlete at the position, maybe ever.

But his weakness/inexperience/whatever you want to call it as a QB has been when he has to pass. i know he's been working on it, and last year he averaged fewer runs per game than in his first year. But the playoffs exposed that weakness yet again. He just wasn't nearly as effective when he was forced to throw vs. run and pass.

Now, I fully expect that he's better this year vs. last year as a passer. But from the little film I've seen he still isn't anywhere near Mahomes/Rodgers/Wilson levels as a passer. That's the weakness Andy and Spags have been exploiting and what they should be game-planning for this time around. Establish a two score lead and force Jackson to pass. Exploit that dinged up OL. Let Tyrann hunt.

Besides Mike Pennel the player that will be the deciding factor for a Chiefs win is CEH.

Like Kareem in the MNF Bronco game Clyde's performance will be critical.

Interesting argument.... but your stats are wrong. Below stats when trailing in 2019. Quite the revelation that when a an is forced into passing situations and the defense knows it that they will be less effective. Really good stuff man.

Lamar Jackson - 60/99, 60.5% comp., 707 yds, 5td, 2int, 90.8 qbr
Mahomes - 88/144, 61% comp., 1120 yds, 7td, 2 int, 95.5 qbr

Do the math yourself if Lamar had the same amount of attempts but you’ll probably **** that up too.
