Alex Smith did, does, and will always suck.

The only thing I thought would happen that hasn't so far is that he'd be less efficient with the ball throwing more often. Some of that is masked by 2-3 dropped INTs. Some of it shows up in a lowered completion percentage.

What was not expected was the Chiefs defense morphing into the best unit in the NFL (so far). Part of that has to deal with improved QB and offensive play and no TOs. A bigger part (I'd argue) of it has to do with improvements by key guys (Poe, Berry, Houston).
Since the AS guys always want to play the "what if" game...

I wonder how many people would still be coocoo for cocoa puffs over Alex if those sure INT's had been made?

Everyone keeps saying he's playing mistake free football, and he hasn't.

Those are huge mistakes - he's been fortunate to get away with each of them.

I doubt people would be as excited over 4 TDs and 3 INTs - two of which would have been pick-sixes.

But hey, he's on pace for ZERO INT's, so there's that.

No need, we ran him off due to our absolute hatred of Alex Smith, the Chiefs, and life in general.

What if...

he has to score more than 24?
has to play playoff caliber team?
the defense wasn't as good as it is?
he's down 3 scores?
the oline sucks? (you guys think he has all day)

Now who's playing that game again?

Because every QB doesn't don't get away with dropped INT's?

I can only think of 1 pass that should have been intercepted and it was in the Dallas game. And the belief he doesnt turn the ball over is not based off 3 games this season. Its based on the last 31 starts of his career.

On the other note about 24 points per game, I know the defense is responsible for some of it and some of it is FG's. Its 24 points a game on average over a 31 game sample size.

Yes we have to this point a well above average defense and we should be only giving up 13 or so points a game avg or less by the end of the year.

I will take 24 points scored and 13 points given up on average every single day of the week and 2x on Sunday.

And yes, we do need more offensive output.

Nobody is claiming Alex Smith is a world beater. Nobody has called him elite that I am aware of though there may be one or 2 people.

My claim has been all along he is good enough to win and to win in the playoffs. And yes I know and acknowledge he needs a good defense which I have contended the entire team that we should have exactly that.

I also have contended all along thats why we traded for him, to win now.

Short passes and dumpoffs in place of runs.

IMO the lack of attempt to run the ball with any real seriousness until the 4th quarter is as big an issue as anything with the offense.

I don't expect Reid to change though.

Jamaal Charles reputation and past performances will force the defense to react on playaction regardless.

Agree with pretty much everything but the bold.

Connor Barwin dropped a sure pick-6 in the Philly game, IIRC another was dropped early in the Jax game.

When the response to any rational post is "3-0", then I have to disagree with you.

He's good enough to win in the regular season - not sure anyone ever doubted that. Several of us doubt he can win with this "play not to lose" mentality against the type of teams you face in the playoffs.

So if he goes out and starts chucking it all over the field in tight coverage, throws a couple of picks and loses in the playoffs, you're ok with that? Deviating from what was winning games in the regular season?

I get what you're saying but playoff games are won and lost in the same fashion as regular season games, IMO.

You would still have to add onto other QB's interceptions for their near-misses... so Alex still wins on that. Nice try though.

Funny, we haven't played an elite team yet this year - but that's exactly what we'll face in the playoffs. You play "not to lose" in the playoffs against an elite QB, and you'll lose.

Maybe we'll get lucky and play the team with the 32nd ranked defense in the WC round.
