I know Lacy has gotten some comps to David Price recently. Is he THAT type of pitching prospect at this stage? How does he compare to say Mize from a couple years ago, in terms of ceiling?
How fast could Lacy move through the Royals system and get to the Bigs? Could he potentially ‘catch up’ with the Fab 4 and arrive around the same time as them? Just was curious . . . . . |

I'd put him on par with Casey Mize in terms of value coming out of college and give him a slight nod in upside because he's lefthanded. Stuff is similar. That's weird. Dingler is a nice prospect but hasn't slipped that far.

2020 Royals Official Offseason/Season Repository
Still great talent available:
Thirty-five of R.J. Anderson’s top 50 draft prospects were selected Wednesday, so there are still many quality players on the board going into Thursday’s action. It should be noted the top available high schoolers may not be signable at this point. There may not be enough bonus pool money available to buy them away from college, in which case they’ll simply go undrafted. Here are the top players available on Day 2 according to Anderson’s top 50 rankings. Teams will spend Thursday morning talking to these players and trying to pin down everyone’s willingness to sign, and their bonus demands. Quote:

Masyn Winn or Austin Martin seem like good fits to me. Previous write-ups I'd seen of Winn seemed to indicate he was more of a SP prospect.
Edited to add: I see a lot of comps today for Nick Loftin to Whit Merrifield and Nico Hoerner. Plus contact guy with some sneaky power, good-not-great speed, instincts, and versatility. I think KC did really well yesterday.

Royals take P Ben Hernandez at #41. H.S. pitcher out of De La Salle Institute (IL).
Alright, Duncan. What do you think? |

After reading the article, I can see why Dayton picked him. That said, throws a 95 mph fastball and supposedly has the best change up of any H.S. pitcher in the draft. |

He has a great changeup (top changeup in draft for HS Pitchers), is athletic, and throws 90-95. I'm a little surprised that's the direction they went, but with the fastball and changeup already where they are, it gives him a safe floor of late-inning reliever (as you'd expect he can sit 95 in a one-inning stint and wipe out a lot of hitters with the change). Breaking ball is usable, it sounds likem, too. Solid pick. I'm interesting to see how far Casey Martin falls. Looks like the scouting industry is higher on him than MLB teams.

Was wondering if they were thinking 'well, hell, he'll make a great late inning reliever if the starter thing doesn't work out.' |
