Andrew Luck Retires

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

First off, from my selfish perspective of a Chiefs fan, I'm just glad the sonofabitch is gone. One of my most hated teams took a fatal headshot two weeks before the season starts. I'd love to see Brady do the same thing tomorrow.

However, I agree with those who say that us mere mortals just don't understand the abuse these guys' bodies take. If he truly felt he needed to hang up his spurs, that's his business.

But if I was a Colts fan, I'd be pissed over the timing more than anything else. He's had to be leaning that way for a long time now. Had he at least been honest about his intentions with the team before the trade deadline, before camp, or better yet, before the draft, he wouldn't have left them in the lurch with basically no opportunity to pick up the pieces.

I think they knew he wasn't going to play atleast for the first half or so of the season so I'm guessing they were ready to roll with Brissett.

The timing sucks, but IMO, i'd rather him do it now than go all Eric Berry and be "day to day" all season. Atleast now they know what is and what isn't.

Luck’s decision was selfish. This is not a life threatening injury such as a spinal cord/concussion injury.

Luck’s decision impacts the careers of 52 other players on the Colts roster, not to mention coaches, front office personnel, etc.

When you are a $100 million franchise player, you owe your franchise better than quitting on them two weeks before the regular season.

I am sure the prospect of dealing with another stubborn/mysterious injury was a stressful situation... that is the price of being a professional football player. Don’t take the $100 million if you don’t want to deal with it.
You're projecting pretty hard here...

I really don't like chiefsshrink or whatever his name is, but why do you feel anyone owes anything to you (or a corporation)?

Please enlighten us

Eli Manning has never missed a game due to injury and has two Super Bowls. I really didn’t expect their stories to turn out the way they did.

I'm all thumbs up for his decision. One less obstacle for us to reach a Super Bowl. And if he thinks he's done, then he should walk while he still can. Check out Joe Montana's condition these days.

Franchise tanks for generational QB. Franchise proceeds to fail miserably at protecting generational QB. Franchise gets prized QB beaten to holy hell for years.

Franchise wonders why their generational QB is permanently broken and deciding to retire early.

Seems like Reid had a better plan than Shottenheimer.
