According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

That is why I think this should be a team penalty, not an individual fine or suspension. Strip them of a draft choice, and warn them of dire consequences if something similar happens in the future.

Rumor has it the Pats will lose a 2nd. Seems kind of silly high to me, to be honest. When other teams manipualted balls (Vikings and Panthers (or Jags, I can never keep it straight)) THIS year, the only punishment was a "don't do it again". The issue, of course, is that the fan trolls are going wild, and must be appeased. Perception >> reality.

But agreed that whatever the rule is, it should be enforced across the board, and that ALL teams should get the same warning of dire consequences.

I believe Belichick at this point and am willing to back way off of him. I agree with Amnorix, that he's never been known as a liar. When culpable he's more of a deflector. If Brady did this, it's an issue I suppose but all QB'S try and **** with the balls. Until something new comes out, I'm done with this.

The reality is that there isn't that much difference between 10.5 PSI and 12.5 PSI. It sounds like quite alot, but it really doesn't affect that much, especially if you're not really focused on it because you're trying to handle 2 million other things.

My assumption/belief is that he is the one that did whatever was done, assuming soemthing was done (which seems like a foregone conclusion at this point).

But in terms of "taking the fall", I assume the punishment will fall on the Patriots team, not Brady individually.

Exactly. Those cheaters would trade all the draft picks and fines in the world if it means they get to the Super Bowl. They need to be hit where it really hurts for it to have an impact. Anything short of a Super Bowl ban shows that Goodell is still clinging on to Kraft's nutsack for dear life.
