Wow. I didn't see that coming. I ... well, I have a lot of feelings.

1) While the end has gone very, very wrong... Dayton Moore proved my Royals could be relevant again. He resurrected a franchise that hadn't really had hope since the day it shipped out David Cone in the mid-90s. Two American League pennants. A World Series title. Flags fly forever. I have GREAT memories from those playoff runs. My kids were born the night Cueto slammed the door on the Astros, for Pete's sake.

So I'm thankful for that.

2) This was necessary. Really, I think the "passing by" of Dayton Moore and his staff/approach to running a franchise might have occurred more than a decade ago, when the hard slot system went into place for the draft.

3) It gives you some hope for the future. If the franchise can up its player development game again, it can be a player again. All it takes is the right baseball people, and you're there.

4) There is absolutely no way that Matheny and Eldred and their people survive this. Hopefull Saylor and his crew DO.

Sherman now saying JJ was behind the hiring of Drew Saylor for our hitting program. Says we need to make similar changes to the pitching development side of things.

Mmm. Alright, if he's actually committed to being more analytics driven in his hire and Saylor is his hire, puts me at ease quite a bit

We'll see what happens but it's pretty clear that's the focus of this move. He just brought it up again when someone asked a follow up question.

Basically said this team had regressed and there needed to be more changes than what was being talked about (presumably by Dayton).

Then his next answer he said we have the data, we have tons of data, it just needs to be implemented and used to make decisions. It takes emotion out of it and that it needs to be prominent in our organization. That was like the third time he said that during the press conference.

ESPN: KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals have fired longtime general manager Dayton Moore, who took the club from a perennial 100-game loser to two World Series and the 2015 championship before its return to mediocrity.

That’s being charitable

I think Sherman gave him that last year when Picollo was made the GM. The problem is Dayton didn't take note hence the direct firing now.

This is great but I can't let myself get too excited until Matheny is gone as well.

Eh. Unless Sherman is an outright bullshitter that's just a formality at this point.
