Green is free to seek a new home

CBSSPORSTLINE.COM
C. Judge

The Kansas City Chiefs will allow veteran quarterback Trent Green to seek a trade, league sources said, but have not ruled out the possibility of him playing for them this year.

The decision, sources said, was reached Tuesday in the wake of recent meetings between Green and Chiefs general manager and team president Carl Peterson.

Peterson on Monday informed Green the club would like to restructure a contract that pays the quarterback $7.2 million this season. That, plus coach Herman Edwards' failure to designate Green as this season's starter, convinced the quarterback to seek opportunities outside Kansas City, sources said.

The Chiefs agreed to grant his request, sources said, but informed their quarterback it does not mean they are trying to peddle him nor does it mean they intend to release him.

Green has been the Chiefs' starter the past six seasons after he was acquired from St. Louis in 2001 for a No. 1 draft pick. Until last season he had not missed a start with the Chiefs, but he bowed out in the season opener with a concussion that sidelined him eight games.

When he returned he struggled, winding up with more interceptions (nine) than touchdowns (seven) for the first time since the 2001 season.

Obviously, he's not. They've been more than accomodating.
He's not accomodating Trent. He's trying to get the team a draft pick for a player they are 100% certain to release at his current contract price.

Q: Herm, back on December 25th you were asked if Trent Green was your starter going into next season and you said, ‘yeah, why wouldn’t he be?’ Have you changed your mind on that?

fine ..... but lets not sugar coat this

Herm doesn't want Green and they are dumping him. They hope by letting Green seek a trade they can grab and extra draft pick.

it's business

fair or not fair as little to do with it

tell me ....... how would they treat Green unfairly in this situation?

I don't understand your argument. Carl is trying to something for Green. Green is the guy making concessions by considering to restructure instead of just categorically refusing to restructure.

And in the process, is accomodating Trent.

Face it, the only way Green gets a starting job somewhere next year is if he changes teams.

Sad but true.... Trents has shown a disturbing history of getting his team to the endzone more than once a game and this troubles our current leader..

I wish Trent the best! He has more class and character in his pink than our current coach could ever dream of.

John "hi boss, what can i do for you?"

Boss "well our Christmas season isn't going very well"

John "that's too bad, anything i can do?"

Boss "Yea, we are cutting back. I'm sorry ... you're fired"

John "what ... i've been here for 15 years!!"

Boss "sorry"

John "but i have 6 kids and my wife just went on dialysis!!"

Boss "Think of it this way ... we are giving you time to spend Christmas with your family and time to find a new job"

Carl is trying to get a draft pick. His action in seeking a draft pick results in Green having the possible opportunity to play for another team. It is not an accomodation to Trent.

Say you and I had a reservation at the same restaurant. My reservation is first. I see that the table they prepared is next to the kitchen and bathroom. I don't want to sit there so I say "take my table." I'm not accomodating you, I'm trying to get a better seat for myself. Same thing here.

if i'm Green i tell my agent to use this ability to find a trade to find me a new job.

then i refuse a pay cut ... don't find a trade ... then just go to my new team after that chiefs cut me.

that's what they get for reducing their QB to fit their reduced offense instead vice-versa.

why do Carl's job and find the trade/get a draft pick for a team that's showing you the door.

In the world known as the NFL the Chiefs are being about as accommodating as possible.

They could cut him now. They could have cut him months ago.

which means they are accommodating nothing

Trent green got hurt last year trying to make something out Herm's crap offense. He took off running even though he's not a scramble type Quarterback. He didn't slide early because he was anxious to try and squeeze every yard out for Herm's crap offense.

Green got hurt and now the Chiefs are firing him.

the NFL is a cutthroat business and Green is getting sliced ... lets not make the Chiefs out to be nice guys.

yeah then you and everyone else would have been screaming how Carl just screwed us with the cap hit that would incurred if they had outright released Trent.
