Despite loss, Chiefs still first in the AFC Worst

Despite loss, Chiefs still first in the AFC Worst

At 4-4 with 2 home losses, all is not lost for the Kansas City Chiefs. An imploding division leaves the Chiefs still on top with SD’s loss at Minnesota and Denver’s humiliation at the hands of the red hot Detroit Lions.

Changes are coming:

Joe Buck plugged away at the Croyle-is-warming-up-on-the-sidelines angle; he got that idea from somewhere.

Larry Johnson’s ankle roll looked like a season ender. Herm said we will see plenty of Kolby Smith along with Priest Holmes. I smell a RBbC…

The better team won:

Favre’s 360 yards passing on the road was a championship performance against a stout defense;

Easy to see why the Pack cut Rayner in favor of Crosby;

Even with plenty of yellow hankies assisting the KC offense’s anemic efforts, GB’s defense took away the run and shut down KC’s (admitted second string) WRs.

The good:

Alphonso Boone is a beast inside who creates all kind of problems for interior blockers;

Dustin Colquitt. ‘Nuff said.

The bad:

3 of 11 on third downs, Huard was sacked 5 times for -40 yards.

Chief’s Cover 2 let WRs get behind them too much against a QB who made them pay for it.

The ugly:

Kansas City averaged just 4 yards-per-play. That is miserable.

KC is dead last in play efficiency: more 3-and-outs than any team in the NFL.

Bold prediction:

Now that Herm is without LJ, he will have to be more creative on offense (which means actually trying to get 1st downs and score). He can no longer hide behind the mirage of “we’re a power running team”. Anticipated result: the Chiefs O will actually improve.

I give Herm a pass for last year and this year. If we go 8-8 or 9-7 that's fine. Few head coaches come in and take their team to the SB in the first year, or the second. Next year, if Brodie looks sharp and wins the starting job, and we pick up some offensive linemen, I expect nothing less than 10-6 with a playoff win.

It's really hard to hate the guy. Some people on here wanna blow DV, and that sh*twad took us to 1 playoff appearance in 5 years. He just gave us a more entertaining team to watch. Herm has the potential to go 2 for 2 on playoff apperances in his first two years with the franchise. At least our young players are getting some important experience.

I guess some fans don't really care about winning, they just want to be entertained. I don't care if the Chiefs win every game 10 to 3. If they win, I'm happy, entertainment is secondary.

Yeah, nothing makes you more proud than being the Champions of a toilet division. I'm sorry but that would be like Carl Lewis bragging about winning the 100 meter dash in the Special Olympics.

I know most coaches don't make the super bowl their first couple of years, and that is why I'm not calling for Herms head. Herm needs a couple years to rebuild the team how he wants it, I think hes doing a pretty good job of it. I want us to win, I just also know Herm could build a better team when he has better talent availiable to draft.

We're going to give up 50 sacks this year. Sorry, I don't mind Brodie taking a few hits, but 50 sacks? Screw that. Huard can take the ridiculous beating. Put Brodie in when we have a reasonably effective OL, not this trash. It's just going to ruin him.

Root for another team then. The AFC West is a weak division, but I still wanna win. I don't care how lousy our team or the rest of the teams in our division are, none of those sh*tbags deserve it any more than we do, so we should go out and win it.

When you see banners that say 15 division titles, etc. they don't post an * beside it proclaiming (2007 was a bad year for the AFC West, it was really a weak division, and the Chiefs barely slid by).

Yet, when we face somebody in the playoffs, we're gonna get drilled eventually.

Is that what you're so happy for? a 8-8, 9-7 season, barely winning the AFC West or backing into the playoffs, yet we'll get exposed as a fraud team that we are in the playoffs, and get humiluated either by the Patriots or the Colts? Or if we face the Jaguars again?

This season, yes.

I'm hoping for a mediocre season and backing into the playoffs. And I know it's a slim chance, but we could beat the Jags if we played them again. We're not the best team to ever play football, but we're far from the worst. On any given day, I believe the Chiefs can compete with any but two teams in the NFL.

If Brodie can show us some sparks in the preseason and we can acquire some offensive linemen, then I think we have a legit chance at being a good team next year. This year, not so much...but I still have hope.

If we lose 3 games in a row..throw Brodie in for the last 5, but we can still do something this year. I'd rather end this season with an AFC West title and a playoff loss than nothing at all.

I want to win a championship every year, but let's face it boys and girls, this season is all but over. NE will go no worse than 14-2 and steamroll overyone enroute to a 4th Title. So if we had to have a year of making the playoffs and petering out, this is the year.

In fact, the rest of the season is playing for second place, because NO ONE can hang with the Pats in '07 unless they lose 4-5 key leaders for the season.

Go Chiefs!

Most teams have to endure a few 5, 6 win seasons to do that. The Chiefs have been fortunate to not have to. That's worth applauding Herm & Carl.

So, we're not winning the SB this year. Fine. But I'll be damned if I sit back and say let's endure a horrible next few years to overhaul this team, like some people here are.
What if I don't think they are on either of those paths? Having your QB situation unsettled doesn't let you project that you are on the road to a SB.

Well, I was mostly focusing on the process. Some people would like to go 5-11, 6-10 while building toward the future. As for me, I would like to go 9-7 and make the playoffs while building toward the future. Just a difference in philosophy, I suppose.

Because it's an easily interchangable internet quote that takes no thought or originality to generate.

It's not right, but some people go that route.

There's an interesting thread on Page 2 titled "AFC West sucks". It'll give you my rundown on the Raiders and the west in general. You should check it out.
