New A/C unit with Crane Pics

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately, our A/C unit went out this weekend. It was 15 years old and probably due. Anyway, since our home is 45 foot tall, a crane was needed to removed the old unit and replace it with a new unit.

Since I thought it was pretty cool to see, I've attached a few pics for those interested.

Enjoy!

Nice. I run my AC constant 6-7 months a year. But it balances out. I rarely have to run the heater.

Thanks, Dude!

I hope you guys enjoy the pics. Being from Kansas, I could have never imagined that you'd need a crane to replace an A/C unit, so I thought I'd share.

Thanks for the pics Dane. Thanks for a sharing a bit of your life with us.

So our building codes pretty stringent with making buildings on side of hills have a lot of concrete foundation type supports before they can build there these days?

It would seem more practical to put the AC unit on the ground with a building that tall. That crane had to have cost a ton of money. But now that the lines all run to the roof I guess you had no choice. With the larger dishes I do now, many of them are on the roof. I move them to the ground when I can.

Our little neighborhood has been in existence since 1920 and it took almost 85 years for engineers to figure out how to build on the hillside behind me. Unfortunately, it was figured out just one year after we moved in.

The houses behind us are all concrete and steel. They don't use wood beams or glue lam beams, they actually use steel girders to frame the house, just like those used for high rise buildings.

Here's a few before and after shots, just to give an idea of how the foundations were laid.

For the cost of the crane, couldn't you have just hired a bunch of illegals to wave palm fronds?

Honestly, we were in such a hurry that I didn't really have time to weigh that option but I'll definitely consider it in the future.

Thanks!

Great looking place, man. No question.

I'll be honest, though. My first thought was, "Whoa, that looks like a lot of stairs." Clearly I'm getting old.

Thanks Dude, but you're right on.

After 5 years of four flights of stairs, we're pretty much over it.

The problem is that there aren't really any ranch style homes in Los Angeles that would be suitable for us. So even when the day comes that we sell and move (and that will probably happen in the next 2 years for various reasons), we'll more than likely end up in at least a 2 story home.

But four? Never again.
