My mock.

Got nothing to do -- tell me what you think.

This idea is starting from square one to build from the future. The first pick is at QB.

From there, I am 99% defense oriented, with only a pause in the 6th for the Rehring the road-grader.

By the way, I totally took the liberty of assuming we traded LJ and Tony G for two thirds.

1. QB Matt Stafford, Georgia -- Brodie's leash just tightened up.

2. DE Brian Orakpo, Texas -- Quick pass-rushing specialist this team is starving for.

3. OLB Anthony Heygood, Purdue -- Gotta love Purdue's athletic, fast linebackers. This guy's a natural, sky's the limit.

3. RB Jorvorskie Lane -- We're going to need a big RB.

3. WR Derrick Williams, Penn State -- Finally, a deep threat?

4. MLB Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan -- Natural leader with great stats.

5. DT Myron Pryor, Kentucky -- Great athleticism, totally raw.

6. OG Steve Rehring, Ohio State -- Massive run-blocker for RG.

7. OLB Kevin Atkins, Boston College -- Speedy and undersized, he'd get playing time immediately.

Well, yeah, but that pick could be as high as a 2nd, so you know that the Saints are going to do whatever they can to lock him up before he goes into free agency, unless they aren't happy with his play.

Not to Hijack your thread or anything, Direckshun, but if I may have a go at this mock thing:
In my dreams, we trade LJ for a 3rd.
(In order of personal preference)
1) Bradford (QB)/Stafford (QB)/Johnson (DE)
2) Selvie (DE)/Spikes (ILB)/ Evans(DE)
3) Loadholt (OT)/Ulatoski (OT)/Freeman (QB)/Holtzclaw (ILB)
3) Loadholt (OT)/Ulatoski (OT)/Freeman (QB)/Holtzclaw (ILB)

At the end of the first day, we should have taken an ILB, DE, QB and an OT. Additionally, every one of these players is a value-pick at the round listed. I won't even try to speak to the second round. ATM, that is way out of my reach

2. C Alex Mack, California -- The best center prospect in years falls to the 2nd. Hello, dominant OL.

2. OLB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri -- Please come out, Sean. We'd love him on the weak side.

3. DE Matt Shaughnessy, Wisconsin -- Lots of pure pass rushers in the midrounds this year. For some reason I've focused on Shaughnessy.

3. WR Derrick Williams, Penn State -- A pure deep threat. Could immediately compete for the slot.

4. QB Tom Brandstater, Fresno State -- Tall, strong QB with great decision-making abilities. Hey, he's got upside and it's a weak class.

5. MLB Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan -- It's the size of the dog in the fight.

6. K Jose Martinez, UTEP -- Fantastic leg, very accurate beyond 40.

7. CB Cary Harris, USC -- An overlooked talent in USC's defense, he's a perfect fit for our defense and adds depth behind Carr & Flowers.
I like this draft better. But I doubt if will finish the first day without taking a QB. Since you are trading TG and LJ, how about packaging them up for somebody's first and try to get Oher AND Bradford in the first round? Or Maleauga + Bradford, depending the 1st round selections?

Actually, since we are dreaming, we should trade LJ and TG for someon'e 1st. Trade rounds 2-7 for a high 1st. we will have 3 1sts and no other picks. Then we use them on Oher, Maleauga and Bradford. OK I'm half joking, but something like that just might put us in the SuperBowl in 2010.

Glad to see somebody else out there Holtzclawing it up!

HOLTZCLAW, DAMMIT. HOLTZCLAW.

New mock (Tony G traded for a 3rd and a 6th, LJ traded for a 2nd):

1. MLB Rey Maualuga, USC -- Lord knows we need that leader in the middle.

2. DE Maurice Evans, Penn State -- As high a ceiling as anybody, Evans provides us a pure pass rusher.

2. QB Curtis Painter, Purdue -- Painter's ceiling isn't too high; he'll never be All Pro. But Painter is safe, and ready for this league.

3. WR Derrick Williams, Penn State -- Will we ever find the pure deep threats we need?

3. OG Kraig Urbik, Wisconsin -- Great power, good in space. Urbik's shown some flashes.

4. OLB Zach Follett, California -- Love Follett's speed. About as perfect a midround prospect as there is.

5. RB Jorvorskie Lane, Texas A&M -- 270 lb fire hydrant of a runner. You'll get that first down.

6. CB Brice McCain, Utah -- Blazing, natural ability CB. Threat to run a 4.3. Can return kicks.

6. DT Roy Miller, Texas -- I'm tired of seeing OL get significant push off our DL. Miller is a pure block of granite.

7. OLB Rashad Bobino, Texas -- MLB who'll have to switch to OLB in the NFL. A natural talent with great speed.

No to Painter. If Freeman comes out (Jr?) maybe he will be a better 2nd rounder.

Well, who knows what we're going to get for Tony G or LJ.

What would a regular Joe 7-round draft look like?

Not easy, considering our many needs. The Chiefs must acquire more picks, from either trading down or trading players.

1. DE Michael Johnson, Georgia Tech -- Elite pass rusher. Move Hali back where he belongs.

2. QB Colt McCoy, Texas -- Strong, durable QB with a good ceiling and a sure hand.

3. C Max Unger, Oregon -- Taylor and Richardson may be this team's future on the right side. Now we need someone in the middle.

4. MLB Daniel Holtzclaw, Eastern Michigan -- I keep pimping this guy. You'll all catch on.

5. WR Tiquan Underwood, Rutgers -- Flirts with a 4.3 40, and isn't teeny tiny like most WRs this late in the draft.

6. OLB Tyrell Sales, Penn State -- A red-flag prospect who is legit first day talent, but has a prior or two. Worth the risk?

7. OT Eric VandenHeuvel, Wisconsin -- This guy has fallen because of a knee injury that has hobbled him a bit, but the talent is there.

That's 3 starting rookies, but still incredible deficiencies on the DL, CB, and WR.

Love it. Evans is fast and nasty. And Bradford is an obvious choice if he's there, I like him over Stafford...if he declares.
