also, try removing the filter. Sometimes the wrong filter type will restrict airflow too much and the furnace will shut down.

Sounds like you need to bleed it, if it's oil.
Break loose the bleeder (usually a 7/16 wrench) and put a tuna can under it. Press the reset and let it startup. Once you get a steady stream of fuel out of the bleeder, close the bleeder. Furnace should fire right up. I had to do this alot before I got my new furnace. |

If you want heat, take a lighter and when you hear that hissing noise put the flame down there by the burner where the hot surface ignitor is located, once the gas hits the flame the burners will lite and heat up until the fan comes on, then you will know that it is the hot surface ignitor that is bad for sure, if the pressure switch was not closing due to a bird the gas valve would never be energized at all, so that would also rule out the pressure switch, if you turn on the fan at the thermostat and the fan comes on, you can rule out a tripped breaker, just from the syptoms that you have described I think your problem is a hot surface ignitor or the ignition module. My furnace has a fan that kicks on before ignition to purge the combustion chamber of any gas/fumes that may have collected prior to kicking on the ignitor and gas. It has a sensor that is triggered by vacuum to know that it's done it's job and if the sensor gets stuck it will never turn on the gas. If your's have something like you will see a couple of rubber 1/4" hoses a foot long or so right out where you can see them.

If you put the flame below the burner with your hand out of the way he will be fine and you know it if your also a tech. They have lighters know days that are long enough that he wouldnt even have to put his hand inside the furnace. |

Oh I am....been doing it for 15 yrs....I'd never tell a homeowner to do that...that's all I'm saying. I've seen too many homeowners that don't have the common sense to change their filters to expect them to not get burned by playing with something they have no knowledge of.
