Marty wanted him gone then. His partying and lifestyle was a "bad influence" on the other players.
I'm not saying I liked Nick. He was an ass.

But if you want to say that was ALL on Nick then fine.

Here's the way I see and you're welcome to disagree:

If Nick is to be considered "Elite", then he should have proved it on the field.

Is Scott Norwood in the Bills HOF?

I didn't think so.

Nick had plenty of opportunities to win important games for the Chiefs and far more often than not, he failed.

He was not an Elite kicker that produced under pressure (i.e. Vinatieri).

He was just a guy.

Yeah, but this is the Chiefs Hall of Fame not the NFL Hall of Fame. Plus, like it or not, he was a fan favorite.

time for me to check out and go home.

He actually missed 3 kicks in that tie against Cleveland in 89.

I think your memory is clouded by one game. The facts fly in your rust colored glasses. He hit 80 % of field goals in the era before specialty balls, and despite your contentions he had 14 game winning field goals. His postseason numbers are lower, but that's because of a smaller sampling. You want to hold Stenerud to the same standard? He missed a three field goals in the longest game ever including a chip shot with less than a minute left in regulation.

You really blame a kicker for missing from more than 50 yards? Go out on a football field and see how small a target it is.

I thought Nick was a good clutch kicker. He just didn't have many clutch opportunities. I'm a Nick Lowery fan.

I believe you're thinking of Dave Szott. And it was a horrible call by the refs. Szott was falling down backwards and they called holding on him.

Lowery was good and probably deserves to be in the Chiefs hall of fame but he also led the mutiny against John Mackovick.

And for what it's worth, I think John Alt was one of the most underrated players of his time. He was an elite left tackle but didn't get much pub.

Seriously, though. During the 80s, how many 'big game winning' kicks could he possibly have the opportunity to make?
