What Medicore Player/Coach will be brought in this off-season?

40+ years without a super bowl appearance
15+ years without a playoff win.

It's a Hunt tradition, so who do they bring in to "satisfy" the fan base this year?

Don't you think that a move like this would be highly unlikely? We all knew that they wouldn't be very good and there has been some improvement over last year in certain phases. I can see a o.c. coming in and maybe some high profile assistants but not a total overhaul, (at least for one more season). I just don't see the organization admitting failure so soon.

I doubt it. I guess it just depends on how things really are behind closed doors.

Crennel and Weis both get mentioned for Coordinator roles but in Crennel's case i could see Haley opening next season w/Haley on a short leash and Romeo ready to take over.

Well, the thread did turn into a winner.

That said, can I start a website offering "inside" information. I mean I have sources too. They talk to me - in my head. They tell me all kinds of crazy things.

Like Clark Hunt is going to try coaching next year so he can get some experience for his next HC hunt...

If Romeo was the reason for the success on defense, then Cleveland should have shown steady improvement under him, but they didn't.

Cleveland's defense under Crennel:
2005 16th in yards, 11th in scoring
2006 27th in yards, 22nd in scoring
2007 30th in yards, 21st in scoring
2008 26th in yards, 16th in scoring
2009 (after) 31st in yards, 25th in scoring

New England defense over the same period:
2004 (with RC) 9th in yards, 2nd in points
2005 26th in yards, 17th in points
2006 6th in yards, 2nd in points
2007 4th in yards & points
2008 10th in yards, 8th in points

Yes, they dropped after he first left under the guidance of Eric Mangini. Then when he left and was replaced by Dean Pees, they came back up.

As far as Haley goes, Arizona is averaging 24.8 points and 360.9 yards per game. Last year under Haley they were averaging 365.8 yards and 26.7 points per game. Not much of a letdown.

Crennel was basically a guess. I don't know what Pioli will do or if his confidence in Haley is wavering. I honestly don't think Pioli or Clark would pull the plug after year 1. I do think that Pioli and Haley himself will try to assemble the best staff they can. With Crennel, Weis, and Groh all available it wouldn't be a suprise to see all 3 added.

If he has a strong staff and still has problems next year i could see that senario.

Part of the problem is we don't know who else was even interviewed when Haley was.

Other than their history and the nepatism the league has in general, I'm not even going to try and guess what hires they will make. Basically just trying some what ifs with the foxsports article.

More than likely if he goes the route of just wanting to sell tickets and that hiring a name coach will get the seats filled they (Clark and Scott) would make a play for Cowher.

Since he has left rumors always connected him pairing with Omar Kahn (cap guy) or Kevin Colbert (Personel) who he worked with the steelers. But it is also the fact that they had a system going and knew what players they wanted and got them. One of the reasons they let players walk is because they drafted well and replaced them easily enough particulary on D.

Clark mentioned the Steelers model along with the Pats as what he wants here.

But that's just speculation on my part. I don't think Haley gets fired after only 1 year.

Exactly.

Its the only thing they can do to avert complete calamity PR-wise for 2010... co-ordinators on both sides of the ball are imperative.

Haley is too green to have taken on what he did this year & same for next year.

As for Pendergast, AZ let him go for a reason, what Haley see's in him i'll never know, his style seems to mirror Cassels arm * generic stencil lettering* DEFENSE... inconsistency is his calling card, good roster or bad.

But, what if KC gets Cleveland steamered, bungles at the Bengals, and bucked by the Broncos? It's going to be a different autumn next year, I'm guessing...

Yeah, i'd say so. Or some other big name. Clark wouldn't eat the last year of Herms contract and 2 or 3 years remaining on Haley's if he and Pioli didn't have something good in mind.

I don't think it's likely but it wouldn't shock me either.

From a head coaching standpoint, yes. Romeo was often blamed for being too emotionless. Not a motivator. Therefore, not head coaching material.

From a coordinator standpoint, you have to realize that coordinators sometimes don't make good head coaches. Without having done the research, I'd imagine those numbers are not a whole lot different from the ones guys like Mike Nolan and Gregg Williams have put up. There's also an argument to be made that some coaches failed because they didn't have the right personnel guys above them--Cleveland was a complete trainwreck under Savage, and those problems still exist to this day. I'd welcome him in as a coordinator. It's possible he's a product of Belichick. But I think he's probably better than we think.
