Derrick Thomas didn't play the run or the pass.
He was surrounded by talented players and focal point of the defenses in Kansas City. He has 601 career tackles. He has 1 I repeat 1 career interception. He only led the NFL in sacks once. (1990) In the biggest game of his career (a drubbing by the Bills) he was on the bench. He never took his team to the next level. (3 career playoff victories) 1.) Bruce Smith 200.0 2.) Reggie White+ 198.0 3.) Kevin Greene 160.0 4.) Chris Doleman 150.5 5.) Michael Strahan 141.5 6.) John Randle 137.5 6.) Richard Dent 137.5 8.) Leslie O'Neal 132.5 8.) Lawrence Taylor+ 132.5 10.) Rickey Jackson 128.0 11.) Derrick Thomas 126.5 12.) Simeon Rice 122.0 13.) Clyde Simmons 121.5 14.) Jason Taylor (34) 120.5 15.) Sean Jones 113.0 16.) Greg Townsend 109.5 1983-1997 17.) Pat Swilling 107.5 18.) Trace Armstrong 106.0 19.) Neil Smith 104.5 19.)Kevin Carter (35) 104.5 I guess since all DT did was sack the QB all these players belong in the HOF. |

Guessing that you never saw them play. DT will never move above Bell and Lanier. |

I'm going to rank the top 8 (after that it doesn't matter as much IMO) thusly:
1. Bobby Bell 2. Willie Lanier 3. Derrick Thomas 4. Sherrill Headrick 5. EJ Holub 6. Tamba Hali 7. Derrick Johnson 8. Jim Lynch Bell in front of Lanier and both in front of DT. I never saw EJ or Headrick play LB, but I am going to give credence to the All Pro and Pro Bowl selections. I moved Tamba and DJ in front of Lynch. Lynch played with three HOFers on the front 7, not to mention guys like Aaron Brown and Curly Culp. I think it is easier to make plays when you are playing with stellar talent around you. Right now I have Tamba ahead of DJ, even thought DJ is a more complete LBer. DJ is having his first great season at age 29. If he can add 2 or 3 more great seasons, I'll move him up. Tamba has more years of being an impact player. |
