Chiefs Chiefs could be stacked for next offseason. - Page 4

I'm anticipating several things here:

1. The Chiefs are only shopping in the bargain bin this offseason, and thus should bring in 4 compensatory picks next year (my guess: a 3rd, two 4ths, and a 5th).

2. The Chiefs could open up cap space for next year by releasing Tamba Hali, Brandon Flowers, and Sean Smith.

If the Chiefs do bring in 4 compensatory picks, they will have 11 picks, 9 picks in the first 5 rounds in 2015.

If the Chiefs do cut those players, which I reckon they might, that would open up about $24m in cap space. On top of the $24m they're already projected to have (pre-Alex Smith and pre-Justin Houston extensions which will take up cap space, and pre-Eric Berry extension, which will free some up), that'll leave the Chiefs with $48m in cap space in 2015.

That should be enough to account for extensions for Smith and Houston, and still have over $30m left over for tons of free agent signings if they so desire, and tons of draft picks to either (a.) trade for talent, or (b.) bring in great talent in the Draft.

Just some food for thought.

Not you. You actually get what needs to be done next season. I'm talking about the people who don't. The people who will be screaming that Dorsey and Reid and creating holes that don't need to be created.

I'd trade Shaun Smith for Revis right now straight up if they could work some cap magic. Dump Alex Smith cap$ in future years with a lot of expected breathing room, maybe you could sway revis off his 'no restructure to make trade happen' if you sweeten him with guaranteed $ in the 1st couple years.

Very fair point on Flowers. The Sean Smith for Revis bullshit is crazy, wtf? Who on earth would do that shit?

Yep. Cant do both without some sort of major compromise that is a setback.

I think you've missed my point.

Because in no way in hell are the Chiefs going to make a 2013 push with two players that haven't come out for the pros until the following year.

We might be miscommunicating here.

them or us? they are gonna get nothing by end of day. we cant unless revis will play, which he likely wont.

of course its bullshit, it's march and day 2 of NFL free agency, everything is bullshit.

yet somehow a team with $20M committed to peyton manning has just committed big $ to rebuild they secondary. a team we have to play 2x again this season.
