AP: Is Donald Stephenson ready to be the Chiefs' starting right tackle?

This thing's a few days old, but I was pretty intrigued by the analysis. This guy previously did a look at Rishaw Johnson in the Chargers game, and here he is looking at Donald Stephenson in the Colts game.

It doesn't answer much (the final conclusion is basically "He's got the potential to be a solid starter") but it does shed some light on the good things that Stephenson did well in the Colts game. Yeah, most of this is sunny and only looks at one of the pressures he gave up, but a zero sack game is a zero sack game. I was also unaware that Alex Smith's strip sack came when Stephenson wasn't on the field and it was instead Schwartz on the play at RT.

If someone else wants to copy/paste then be my guest, but with all the images in the post I'm not going to take the time to link each one.

Funny thing is both were retreads arriving to resounding cries of "meh."

Green came rusty & hurt looking bad his first year. Holmes arrived old & coming off a good year but with his own injury concerns.

And none of it worked at any time when Willie Roaf was off the field. That soaring offense crashed hard when Roaf went to the sidelines for a few games.

Did the injury impact his play last season?

I really don't know. It's an honest question. When did the injury that required the surgery occur?

I'm not sure how "the" injury impacted his play last year. However, I am sure that because of injury, he missed games last year. I'm also sure because of "the" injury and subsequent surgery, Fish did not participate at full speed in mini camp and was not able to lift weights or work out for an extended period of time. Based on all that, I can understand why people would have doubts that he will show major improvement, especially early in the season.

I'm a Fish supporter, but I'm starting to have my doubts...I continue to hope that Bruce Mathews was right about the kid when he said that Fisher has all the tools to be an outstanding LT in the NFL.

Stephenson should probably start at LT and let the best man win at RT between Fisher and whatever also-rans KC has.

It definitely did. Just go back and watch the games. There were times when he just couldn't lift his arm up to help block the pass rusher and ended up giving up easy pressure; you could definitely tell that there was something physically wrong with him, playing injured, as opposed to it just being mental or technical mistakes.

I don't know why the coaching staff kept rolling him out there when he was like that. They would have been better off shutting him down halfway through the season to let him recover and get physically prepared for 2014, letting Stephenson start in his place at RT for the remainder of that season. Biggest obstacle was, IMO, there wasn't a viable option left in FA that could fill the swing role effectively had they put Fisher on IR and chose to start Stephenson.

I feel bad for the poor suckers( me )who have to read the absolute tripe that both the national and local media write about KC every off season.

Sweet Christ, reading Tiecher is like driving a spike through your head. Yeah, you get something new in there, but you lose more in the process.
