What's wrong with the Bob Sutton scheme?

Set the talent level aside for a second. The scheme itself I contend is bunk. It appears to be a complete read & react defense. Sutton seems to "play not to lose" from a defensive aspect. Turnovers are what his scheme hinges on.

It just appears to be an indecisive scheme. Afraid to commit to attack the run or pass on any given play. It's like he's afraid to run blitz because it may not be a run. He's afraid to pass blitz because they may run the ball. His zone scheme does not seem to call for defenders manning up on offensive players in their zone.

I just can't get a read on what it is he is trying to do. It looks like he is trying to defend against everything all the time. It doesn't really come off that much different than the RAC 3-4.

Scrap Ford, Houston, Berry and go to a 4-3?

You realize we only have 3 years after this one to push for a ring and this is our best chance to do it?

We don’t need to do a full on ****ing rebuild. That’s going to take at least 2 years.

I didn't watch that game, so clarify next time, first of all.

Second of all...you're talking about Browns vs Bucs.

Two teams TRYING to become second-tier.

Let that sink in.

I think this defense needs to go to a cover 2-man under if anything. The single high safety is not going to do us any good. We don't have the horses to go man without safety help.

Houston is hurt all the time and can't stay on the field.
Berry is hurt all the time and can't stay on the field.
Defenses rebuild faster than offenses.
Ford cannot play in a 4-3.
Hitches cannot play in a 3-4.
Most of these guys played a base 4-3 most of their pre-NFL careers I would wager as well.

The Browns got ****ed by the refs in the Raiders game and they beat the Ravens in OT. Doesn't exactly scream trying to be 2nd tier. That went out the window when Mayfield was given the starting job.

Basically, we're using the domino system, Mr. petegz28.

First, you line them all up very neatly. Then you let them stand there motionless for a while. Then, when the pulling guard knocks down the first domino, you watch as the rest of them fall down in order. Sometimes with pips up. Sometimes not.

This is an example of not putting your players in a postion to succeed. And that is a big reason why he is a bad coach that just needs to **** off from Arrowhead. Give him his gold watch, suitcase full of pudding and put him in a johnny knox retirement village. He is senile and needs to retire.
So should we run a triple slot corner defense?

But the ILBs are slow as molasses; if anything, if you want to get rid of all the cover 1/man scheme I would advise taking the ILBs off the field entirely, go nickel 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 with K-pass/Neiman/Speaks as the main LB rotation...

But if you want to be more 'attacking' the cover-2-man under is WAY more passive than what we're working now...

In fact, that's what we ran in the Herm era.

No thanks.

That Cover-2/man-under NEEDS HOF-type talent...

A d-line with Sapp, McFarland, and Rice...LBs that FLY to the ball like Derrick Brooks...and DBs like Lynch, Jackson, and Ronde Barber...

It takes even a better secondary to constantly run man coverage.

Being passive in the secondary is kinda what we need. We actually have a decent pass rush. If Sutton would commit to either stopping the run or the pass it would help greatly. As long as he runs that read-react defense we are going to get rolled.

BUT WE GET ROLLED HARDER WHEN WE BLITZ!!

Selling out, i.e. committing to stop either the pass or the run is EXACTLY what gets this defense rolled!!

The 'read-and-react' (as you call it) has been the most effective defense for this team...

I've gotta go turn chicken breasts.

I just thought of something. Maybe the plan is to pretend our defense is horrible and just let our Offense carry us until playoffs. Maybe we're secretly practicing completely diffent than we're playing just to not let anyone know we're really good and the plan is to bring in Berry and Houston at the end.

That's just stupid.

Justin Houston has NEVER lined up at CB.

Justin Houston HAS been left in one-on-one coverage on a WR, I remember one time in particular, during a playoff game vs Pittsburgh when ERIC BERRY blew his top coverage by biting on a fake, leaving Houston on an island covering AB...

The difference between me and you would be that I KNOW WHAT THE **** I'M LOOKING AT WHEN I SEE THAT SHIT.
