The Chiefs are promoting practice squad RB DeAndre Washington to their active roster. He had a solid training camp and now gets the chance to possibly play again in games next to his college teammate @PatrickMahomes.

For the record, I've never been a Thompson fan. He's only gotten 5 carries because he's just not very good.

Washington should be an upgrade over either Darwin or Darrel in the run game at the very least. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Darwin take a few snaps anyway as a change-of-pace guy.

I haven't seen much of Washington as a receiver, but if he was a Raider, Gruden would've had him run plenty of passing snaps while he was there. I wonder if he had issues there which is how Jacobs took the RB1 slot so easily.

Found a Raiders highlight reel of Washington. He looks a bit like Damien to me. Maybe a little more agile between the tackles, but not quite as quick laterally as CEH. His physicals say he's basically the same stature as CEH, just a bit bigger. He's probably not the receiver that CEH is, from the highlight reel it looks like he catches with his body more than anything, while CEH is a ball snatcher.

In 4 years in Oakland, he had one year in 2018 where he only had 1 target. Otherwise, he had 23, 45, and 41 targets.

He's going to contribute in both the running game and the passing game.

He’s the most like CEH in terms of skill set and that is why I never understood leaving him on the PS.

Because they were looking for complimentary pieces and ST most likely.

They haven't played together in awhile, but DeAndre was really good with Mahomes in college when Patrick would decide to play out of structure. DeAndre had good instincts to get open and great hands/YAC.

They used it on him for one of the games but not the others.

Teams haven’t been using the protected designations much.

I wonder if maybe there just hasn't been much player movement, especially since they might be bringing the virus with them.
