It seems like people disagree most with the decision to go for it on 4th and Goal from the Chiefs' one-yard line before halftime. I wouldn't have an issue at all with Reid going for it in that same situation. I may not like the play call or I may have gripes about execution, but the decision to go would be fine with me.

And on the other side, most of us would have felt a little relief if they'd just kicked it in most of those situations. That's a pretty good indicator that we know deep down that going for it is the best option.

I actually wanted them to go for it, because I felt like they were dominating us and our best chance was to get a little lucky with 4th down stops or turnovers. But it's close either way in my mind.

To your point - normally I would strongly want a team to kick the FG there.

Assessment: god damn reerun he is

Also, does anyone else find it really disrespectful when teams repeatedly go for it on 4th down?

I mean it is what it is but I was the most nervous on those 4th downs....Makes the game super exciting thats for sure.

I'm probably wrong here but from my understanding Analytics take a lot of data from past examples and outcomes. If true and how we all can agree that 4th down tries and such are becoming more and more common won't this shift the analytics and should start to show the REAL odds of kicking vs going for it? the sample size of kicking vs going for it can't be "HUGE" and with more and more tries this should start to show the "real" numbers.

Analytics has a part but didn't work last night /shrug

Overrated. Wound too tight. Team reflected that in critical situations.

They've gone for it on 4th down 26 times this year. It's just what they do. We just gave them enough short ones that the numbers said to go a lot.

And it’s gotten them 8-6. Someone should do an analysis to see if just playing straight up football without all the analytics would have gotten them More wins or about the same.

Just because it doesn't work doesn't mean it was the wrong decision. Just like a coach may make the right decision to kick a field goal but it gets blocked.

It's been said for a few years now that you aren't going to beat the Chiefs with 3's. Other than the one right before the half that would have put them up seven I think he made the correct calls on the 4th down decisions. The challenge on the Kelce catch is iffy, but it looked to me that they were going to have to take a timeout there anyway on defense and they still had two challenges left so I didn't think that was an egregious mistake either.

Yes, they've been saying for a few years that you have to score early and often to beat the Chiefs, but they've been saying that as the 2018, 2019, and 2020 Chiefs put up huge point totals. The 2021 Chiefs have been "struggling" on offense. Making the decision to go for it on 4th down was probably the right thing to do if the situation had come up in prior years, but I'm not sure about it this year.
