Here’s a play where a player gives himself up, it’s not a playoff game, and it’s not a fumble.

Mixon's right arm was touched a Chiefs player before he went to the ground, so he was technically down by contact per the rules.

Struggle to see how KC has much right to complain about officiating after they benefitted from N'Keal Harry being ruled OOB during a regular season game against NE a couple years ago. Harry was not OOB, nor even close to being OOB. The official ruled Harry OOB, nullifying the ability for the play to be reviewed, taking 6-7 legitimate points off the board.

Haha. A troll Patriots fan crying about a regular season game a couple years ago. This should put things into perspective for us Chiefs fans about how far we’ve come with Mahomes. It’s the cherry on top to see how far the Pats have fallen in the same post. I know it’s been a long time, but your dumbass coach wasted his challenges in case you forgot. It was the beginning of a long string of failures for that old man. We love watching it unravel.

Mixon fumbled

He did fumble by throwing down the ball. He tripped on his own when he tried to make a cut. KC should have jumped on the ball. That would have forced a review

We did not play well enough to win the game... this play is NOT why we lost. But it also could easily have been called a fumble.

Let's look at it another way. Mixon quickly jumps up after stumbling down. If he had immediately run into the endzone instead of dropping the ball would the refs have "let the play continue" as they are taught to do and then go back and review?

My guess is if he runs into the endzone instead of dropping the ball, the refs would have let the play roll and it would be called a TD after review... so why not review it as a fumble? At least one chiefs player (the one who recovered the ball immediately) had enough sense to wonder if he wasn't down.

The runner gave himself up and didn't try to advance. The play was dead. Get over it.

An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:

when a runner declares himself down by:
falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.

He fell to the ground. He clearly made no immediate effort to advance, given he got up and tossed the ball in order to celebrate.

He was on the ground. He was either down by contact, or he was down by virtue of his "clearly making no immediate effort to advance."

Either way, he was down.
Well, if you're going to bring the rulebook into it, that changes the whole discussion. Now I have to find something else to complain about.

I do think that rule must have changed at some point, though. I recall past plays where that was ruled a fumble.
