I wouldn’t say the cockiness in and of itself is a negative, what’s negative is that they kept trying to shove a square peg into a round hole bc they were utterly blinded by it. I would say the 2nd half seemed more arrogant than cocky, though. And we know the line between cocky and arrogant is thin

Mahomes' tendency on RPO is to throw it. If everyone else can see that tendency, Andy might want to change his approach. Either coach him to be more willing to do handoffs on RPO plays, or simply do a normal running play.

And if we had ran the ball and got stopped you same clowns would have been bitching because we didn't throw it.

Nah, I’ve been extremely consistent in my “we should run the ball when the defense gives us a reason to” take. You can go back and see all the times I’ve said it. This isn’t a team that should be looking to run, but when the defense drops 8 consistently while we have an 18 point lead and we have a line that can actually run block, yeah, I don’t think it’s an unreasonable thing to say.

The problem is the Chiefs seem to have no Plan B or struggle to make adjustments on offense, especially in-game.

This is why a stronger/more capable offensive coordinator is needed to support Andy Reid and this offense.

They have every right to be cocky.

The issue is, this isn't an issue until it's an issue. It's not a coincidence that after our last two end-of-season losses (SB @ Tampa and AFCCG against CIN), players from both teams have come out and said we were cocky.

It's OK to know you're the shit. It is not OK to be stale and refuse to adapt because you think simply showing up will lead to victory.

"Got cocky" in that context is just another way of saying they didn't adjust.

It's letting your arrogance (Pat, Andy & EB) get the best of you by thinking your overall game plan is better than Cincy's 2nd half adjustments - which it obviously was not.

so if "cocky" means "stand down".......sure, I believe it.

When we wanted to in the first half, we beat the 3 man rush just fine.

IMO we win by multiple scores of McKinnon had double the touches on offense.

It kinda pisses me off to hear the opposing defense knew what was coming and we kept forcing it instead of doing what was very effective.
Yep, said it in another thread. The minute they started dropping 8 consistently, Andy should have put Reek into the backfield. They would have had to respect that or Reek mighta housed one, and their coaches would have adjusted quickly.

Because there’s a whole other side of the coin to that argument. Mahomes is a smart guy, not hard to see the run game was working great. Why not hand it off as it IS a run pass OPTION. Instead, Mahomes decided to pull it back and pass it instead of keeping it with the back who was smoking them, and against 3 man rushes. Sure Andy could have called a different play, but also Mahomes could have given it to the back, and taken what the defense was giving us.

Why we don't put Reek in the backfield more often makes no sense to me.

Andy is a great innovator but he has some very puzzling blind spots.

Honestly, we should have been cocky about running the ball. That would have ended the game regardless of what Eli Apple thinks or says.

Sports are weird. If we'd been able to complete one throw late in the game, the story would be about how the Bengals just didn't have what it takes. Instead, we were cocky. Mmmk.

Mahomes is a guy who wants to throw it on every play. So the coach needs to convince him to do more handoffs on RPO's, which would help the team be less predictable. Or the coach needs to call more straight up run plays.
