Well the fact they somewhat paused and had to talk about it they erred on the side of safety for the QB. They didn't want to hear it from NFL Brass IF they don't call it because you know it's all about protecting the product !! Maybe none of them knew the rule in minuscule way and they just CYA'd is my opinion.

I voted that it was a bad call, which is yes in the poll. It's not a horse collar according to the letter of the rule and the intent of the rule.

I was laughing about this in the game thread. The dude's left arm was trapped in Donovan so badly that I thought he was going to have to saw it off like that guy that got trapped under the boulder a few years back.

Yeah I watched Carton and Greenie this morning and they were livid that a hold wasn't called. Probably a 50/50 call. Smith had his hands on the breastplate and wasn't pulling. What looked weird was the Jets player got his arm lodged between Smith's forearm and side. It looked terrible but not Smith's fault as he was locked up and stalemated with the defender.

Hell Carton even had a problem with the sitdown by Mahomes to end the game. Says Patrick screwed millions of people who bet on game.

The biggest reason that wasn't a hold is the defender never tried to get a way he stayed right in front. Had he made more of an effort to go right or left causing lineman's arms to extend there would of been a holding call.

That's not gonna get called. Ever. If the defender is gonna do that and act like that, it's not a flag.

I'm sure there were millions happy too that had the Jets covering. I bet on games too so I've been there before, but some of these people new to it are in shambles every time they lose a bet to something like that, which happens regularly I might add.

It's not a 'huge' hold - Smith did the thing that officials typically let go. He kept his arms inside the rushers pads.

Had the rusher not given up on the play and actually driven through Smith's left shoulder, it would've forced Smith to extend, but he let Smith just manhandle him in between his shoulders and when an OL does that, the hold usually isn't called.

Hands inside the pads. Everyone knows that OL clutch and grab down there all the time but so long as they don't get their arms extended in doing so, it's not going to get flagged.

This gets back to where you were last week on the illegal procedure stuff. There is the rulebook, and then there's the way the penalties are actually called. And if the penalties are called by the letter of the rulebook, this game would be BRUTAL to watch because there'd be a penalty on literally every single play.
