The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

I used to do a lot more than I am doing now. I am actually leaning out quicker now without doing it. I was going to the gym 10 times a week. I worked out in the morning, and I got hungry more often. So, I ate more.

Now, I am watching what I eat much closer, and I just lift. Now, I don't take a huge amount of time between my exercises.... so, it is a bit of a cardio workout.

I am thinking about doing the Southeast Warrior dash.... so, I am going to do more cardio starting next Monday. It is only 3.22 miles... but I just want to make sure I am ready.

BTW, I'm assuming it was water weight because those 6lbs came off already. Now, to figure out how I lost nothing in that time.

Lately I can't get enough of olives. I limit myself to about 50 calories of them a day, but damn they are tasty.

Okay, I can now do 6 neutral grip pull ups without a break. Oh, and it is a full extension, not this half way down crap I see. Not great, but considering I couldn't do a single one five months ago..... I feel pretty good about it.

I can only do three wide grip at once. Although, this was after the set of neutral grip pull ups.

I did 30 pullups total last night. Then, I went over to the pullup assist machine and did 3 sets of 12 using half my body weight really focusing on squeezing my shoulders together.

I hope Silock is right about not training biceps, because I only did one bicep excercise last night. I got in the gym early, and I was spotting a friend a lot. I thought that I had plenty of time. So, I worked in more back exercises than normal. And, at the end, I was doing supersets trying to squeeze in everything.

I could spend 3 hours a day in the gym easy and still not run out of exercises. At some point, I have to quit reading. Because everytime I see a new exercise, I want to incorporate it into my workout. Only, I don't like removing any of the other exercises.

According to the labels, the NS foods don't go over 100% of my recommended daily sodium intake by themselves. By the time I had in other things it probably gets close or slightly above 100%.

Olives could be compensation for the reduced sodium, provided you were eating a lot of salt before, and most people do. If that's the case, that's great. I tend to eat a very few potato chips almost on a daily basis when I'm "dieting". Olives would be a much better choice for me. I just can't stand them.

I am constantly experimenting with my diet and exercise. I am finding that the more 'veggies' I eat, the quicker I lose weight. I still make sure I get protein with shakes. But, I munch on carrots, broccoli or cauliflower all day. I was eating nuts, cheese, chicken, etc.

I have also cut out just about every bread. I have had whole wheat pasta sparingly.

Anyways, I just thought I would mention it.... because I am able to eat more... and still lose weight. But, I do make sure that my protein intake is well over 150 grams per day.

I got a juicer and started having some veggie juice at least once a day (replacing soda for the most part). I really like cucumber mixes and carrots make a great base as well.

I still make sure to eat veggies with my meals, but I really like the juicing aspect.

They're great to get started on. However my nutritionist told me to stop drinking them after about 3 months. She said that I was robbing my metabolism of the ability to actually burn those veggies by drinking them rather than eating them.

It's not a big deal, but something to keep in mind as you move forward. And ftr, I was drinking fruit smoothies instead of vegetable juice.
