Yeah what? Chris is the prototypical 34DE. Don't expect him to man the middle in base D.

Yea the only way that works is if we decide to re-sign Howard and move him to NT and Jones takes his spot.
I'd prefer not to lose Poe, so we can have him and Jones next to eachother when we're in nickel. That could be special with Houston and Ford coming off the edge. |

I don't understand how the franchise tag value should make him the highest paid safety. Isn't the tag calculated as the average of the top five highest paid players at the position? So how does that equal a value higher than anyone else?

Jones and Poe in the nickel is going to be hell for C's and G's. But then again, it has been for the last 2 years with Poe, Bailey and Howard wrecking shit.

Yes it is calculated off the average of the top 5 at that position. Those at the top are in the early years of those contracts, the cheap years, so Berry will actually make more in this season than the others will.

Dion Jordan? Luke Joeckel? Ansah and Richardson who were never projected to go as high as #1 have turned out ok from that draft class, but they too have their warts. Fisher had a rough start to the career, but he is getting better and is starting to show he merited the 1st overall pick. But I suppose you think we can find a more cost effective starting LT in free agency? Or how about the draft, so we start over again and remain one of the youngest O-line units league-wide that just keeps churning personnel? If Fisher shows the consistency of play in 2016-17 that he did over his last 12 or so games, he will get paid by the Chiefs, and likely a decent, but not absurd amount. |

Which is perfect because he'll 29 years old when the deal expires. There aren't too many 30+ DT's or DE's playing at a high level beyond that age nor deserve huge free agency dollars.
I also believe that this practically ensures that Poe will sign an extension. |
