The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

When your at the gym just ask one of the bigger guys, even if they don't use most of the time they can point you to the ones that do.

Yesterday was legs day..OUCH! Always tough. I did 3 different types of lunges, including jumping lunges, 120 mountain climbers, jump squats and ran around the entire gym (outside)twice--I did this sequence 3x times--All in front of the gym...literally at the front door. My trainer is odd LOL

I ate, a bunless burger with jalapenos and mushrooms on top--salad with strawberries, blueberries, almonds, cucumbers, tomatoes and feta with a salt-free balsamic dressing. Yummo!

Im a little sore today, but not too bad. Just enought to remind me of the workout. I like that kind of sore

Your trainer sounds just like my KB instructor (who is also a PT). He's always making people go outside and jog around the neighborhood carrying weights and do lunges around the buildings and stuff. He hates to be inside.

I enjoyed it--my hip hurts alot today tho--running on concrete no good for me--but overall, I like his apporach even though its brutal!

Did KB program #1 again today. This was my second day of it. It's way more brutal than program #2. I'm already showing some serious results in my body from a little over a week of this KB regime. Loving it! Feel strong. Feel focused. Feel fit.

My gym is so awesome. Bag on 24 hour fitness all you want, those guys have taken such a vested interest in me. They know I lost my job, and the manager of the trainers is taking an hour out of her day early next week to show me a full body workout I can do 3 days a week with free weights.

She knows I'm concerned about technique, and proper lifting and she's going to show me how to do it knowing I can't buy training right now because of my current financial situation. Who does that anymore?

When I worked at a gym, out of all the trainers there was one that would do that kind of thing and he just enjoyed helping people. He also got a talking to by the head trainer who told him to stop helping people for free.

It's pretty cool that they doing that for you.

Well, tonight sucked. Ate well all day. We had about five inches of snow. I went out and played with the kids in it. I called the gym and they were open. So, I got ready...drank my pre workout drink, drove up there and they were just closing. They closed an hour early because no one else was there. I don't blame them. It was bad (for Georgia) and no one was getting out in it to go workout. I am bummed.

I went ahead and did three sets of 30 pushups. Not much, but I figured it was better than nothing.

Now, I have to decide whether to do my legs tomorrow, which was today's workout.... or just skip legs and jump to my next workout.... which is my favorite.... chest and triceps.

Anyways, just wanted to gripe a little. I am done.

I went into my gym tonight and I was the only person in the place for my entire workout. It was somewhat eerie, but nice. I've been doing some hip extension exercises to improve my posture, and they're somewhat embarrassing to do in front of others.

What I don't understand is how exercising has the opposite effect on me. Most people get a burst of energy and a pump, but it puts me to sleep like a baby. I almost fell asleep in my car on the way home!

So I'm sticking with the same post-workout I've been doing. Since I'm building muscle I go with the tall glass of chocolate milk, a (relatively) big bowl of cottage cheese and some unsweetened applesauce.

I'm not really worried about calories. I'm worried about protein. Today I got about 90 grams worth doing things the natural way. Just add in some tunafish, eggs, chicken, etc.
