*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!
No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

None of this, I repeat, none of this is required for dietary supplements as long as they print "This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease" on the label. That's insane to me. But the real thing that baffles me is safety. Pharm drugs are treated as hazardous until they are proven to be safe (in relation to proven benefit) in trials, but supplements are assumed safe until they are proven to be hazardous. And, the burden of proof is on the FDA, who doesn't have the funding to test everything people put into their bodies. That's not worth concern? |

I do believe that oatmeal is a great breakfast meal. Am I missing something here?

Whole oatmeal is OK. The flavored oatmeals have lots of excess sugar. It is just a lot of carbs.

I just think eating any grains for breakfast is a bad idea. Shit goes right through me and I'm hungry an hour later.

I don't want to argue, because you can put whatever you want into your body. But I clicked on that link in the Royals thread, and that shit looks absolutely disturbing. |

I'd skip the turkey bacon and go regular 'center cut' - there's hardly a difference. Plus turkey bacon is way more processed. |

It is only 2.5 grams and 35 calories per slice. I don't think it's too bad. It's pretty good.
Not sure why it's a scam?

Pork bacon’s got a bad rap for wreaking havoc on your cholesterol. But is turkey bacon really any better? The truth: Stick with the pig. As far as calories go, the difference between “healthy” turkey bacon and “fatty” pig is negligible—and depending on the slice, turkey might sometimes tip the scales a touch more. Additionally, while turkey is indeed a leaner meat, turkey bacon isn’t made from 100 percent bird: One look at the ingredients list will show a long line of suspicious additives and extras that can’t possibly add anything of nutritional value. And finally, the sodium content of the turkey bacon is actually higher than what you’ll find in the kind that oinks—so if you’re worried about your blood pressure, opting for the original version is usually the smarter move. What You Really Want: Regular bacon. We like Hormel Black Label and Oscar Mayer Center Cut bacon for some low-cal, low-additive options. Thanks for reading! |

I wouldn't even think about taking a PROVEN hepatotoxic agent like methyltestosterone, so why would I pump myself with shit with unknown excretion mechanisms and safety profiles? The safety profiles may never be known, honestly, because there's no financial incentive for the makers of these supplements to do the studies. People will buy them based on their outrageous claims, and the overworked FDA has no chance at regulating these things. |
