One of my favorite Cardinal moments ever:

Zambrano plugs a couple of Cardinals batters, tempers are starting to flare. Sosa flies out to RF and on the way back to the dugout, Carpenter stops him at the 3rd base line and tells him, in no uncertain terms, that Zambrano will get his shit together or somebody (probably Sammy) is going to get lit up.

Sosa nods his head, goes back to the dugout, and Zambrano didn't come back inside for the rest of the night.

Of everyone on the pitching staff, Penny is the guy I could see as most likely to break my arm in a drunken brawl.

Carpenter, OTOH, is the guy I could see waiting until the next night and then killing me in my sleep.

That is one seriously intense MFer.

Much of the Cardinals regular season success can be attributed to Tony's driven attitude...

...As can many of their playoff failures.

There's a line between focused and brooding that LaRussa hasn't ever found. When the playoffs role around, that intensity because almost a gripping fear and you can see his players start to grip the bats too tightly and try to throw every pitch just a little harder.

There's a reason he won his only WS in St. Louis as a massive underdog.

I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die? Why do they come to me to die?"

Too bad we won't get a shot at Failmeyer during the SF series. He pitched, if you can call it that, tonight.

That guy's agent must be a magician.

You have to tip you cap to Mo and TLR for putting this team togeather and for the fans to show up and pay the ticket prices to pay for it all.

To do something no other Cardinal team has ever done is an accomplishment.
Lets see if we can continue this consistency through the rest of the 162 game schedule. I don't see why we can't when we send out
Carpenter - Wainwright - Penny and Garcia looking like a 15-20 game winner too.

I like our chances if we avoid injuries.

The offense had a say in that as well. They didn't hit for crap against a pedestrian Astros team in '05.

They did enough to get it back to Busch Stadium for game 6 against Roy Oswalt. That was the game - Oswalt v. Mulder with everything on the line - that we traded Haren for.

And Mulder went out there throwing 88 mph cockshots with no movement. He gave up that jack to Jason Lane and you could see him just decide he was done pitching. From there he was just throwing slop up there and hoping the Astros would be kind enough to get themselves out.

When we needed him to come through and get us to a game 7, he spit the bit. And that's not even getting into game 2 where he yacked up our homefield advantage.

Mulder is a pussy.

If we could get Lohse on board with the rest of the starters the cards would be a very difficult team to hit against

The amazing thing is that some of the hitters are not doing well, if they start clicking then maybe all the runs won't come from the long ball.
